He may stay ahead of the peleton on the flat section indeed but how will it affect his level in the finale? (Poggio ascent + descent + finish). He will surely have less in tank than his main rivals there and will be vulnerable. Well, maybe we will see what will happen in 3 days if he tries!
No, he won't. If Pogacar drops everybody, it means his rivals are tired so they will not climb Poggio much faster than him. MSR is a very easy race so he can definitely race 22 km solo without running out of energy. He is used to 40/50 km solos.

They will not have to be much faster than him on Poggio. First of all, I don't believe it will be as much as 30 seconds gap. Plus, staying ahead on the flat will be more difficult for him (even if he's better uphill) so his advantage before the finale will be minimal. So there's a good chance that a few best guys from the chasers will catch him (not necessarily a large group), maybe on Poggio maybe even later.

Much faster means closing a 15 seconds gap. No one will cooperate in the Poggio.

To be honest, he never showed he can go solo in MSR. He is trying to go but MVP has been too strong.
To be honest, he has showed glimmers of doing it, last year he attacked a bit too late on the Poggio and ran out of road. This time he could do it from the Cipressa, by the looks of things, very good chances for tailwind brought to you by our Pogacar expert and also meterologist @mou

One thing is domestiques that surive Cipressa will probably be burnt in the flat section and then there's decent chances for a really poor chase on the Poggio.

It's not that I'm against Cipressa attack, just skeptical regarding the result. But maybe I'm wrong here. Well, hammering Poggio hasn't worked so far so let there be carnage on Cipressa then! Pogi will surely try this option at some point of his career (maybe even this Saturday).

Looks like full strong tailwind (more than 20 km/h) in Saturday afternoon!...according to Windows app.

I'm skeptical too but he already tried 3 times in the Poggio and he failed. Time to switch his approach in MSR and try an attack in Cipressa.

i explained why talking about 9min on cipressa where Pogi goes alone is worthless. Than you came with his solos which are totally irrelevant as reference for those kind of races (MSR, Quebec). I will put simple for you-Pogi can never win going solo on Cipressa. Him having advantage 45s on top of Cipressa (again not possible) would be too small. Still I want him to try.
If Pog got to the top of Cipressa with 45 seconds left, it’s game over, they would not bring him back.

That won’t happen though, it won’t even be close to a gap like that. I do think he will try on the Cipressa, what will be interesting is who manages to stick to his wheel, and will they then co-operate to reach the Poggio together.

If MVDP sticks to him, you have to fancy him to finish the job.

Huh? Who should they have brought instead of their best riders for this parcours?
They brought laengen to pace first part of the race & its crazy to see how a 20 year experienced manager thinks 1 guy polit can position the whole team to the front at the start of cipressa fighting against 5 or 6 positioning specialists per team. Crazy world👏

So what should they do instead? Have more riders in the fight for position, so fewer riders can pull on the climbs?

What? Tell me a team with 5 riders who are good in positioning their team leaders.

Bring the best position guy in chaotic situations in oliviera and bring either mcnulty or morgado instead of novak and catch everyone by surprise by going full on berta

Just refer to pcs mate. Every team is going with their classics team not climbers coz except the leader everyones job in their teams is to position the leader for start of cipressa and everyone knows pog will take over from there and its upto their respective team leader to follow him
