Somebody make a case to me for anyone staying with pog after a sub 9 minute cipressa. Best case scenario is 30 seconds behind and claw 10 seconds back on the descent. Then it’s all nose in the wind after that

If a "full" peloton climbs Cipressa for 9:26, then the best riders should be able to do it for ~9:10.

If Pogacar wants to gain 30 seconds on Cipressa he has to hope on all the main guys being much worse than last year or himself doing Cipressa below 8:50. 8:40 preferably.

No one will work with him anyhow. So he might as well be alone.

Not much of a case to be made, 289k..if it's cold, rainy nasty race will drop @30% of riders in first hundred Ks. Don't know what team is going all in on chasing Pidcock, Pog, MVP, Mohoric ,Matthews.. Visma isn't strong,Bardini, Picnic, Solution Tech, Cofids, Israel, Arkea..
if the elite separate very early, race likely to look like other rainy messes like Adriatico, and Paris Nice were the schitty weather knocks motivation out of average racers.
Don't know if there is a real time update for DNFers but if weather sucks and riders lose contact.. @3-4 minutes will be enough to get in the car. Look at the startlist..dozens of riders that will need absolutely everything to be perfect to stay in contact with Pogacar and MVP, Pidcock even half way point.

UAE management has said to the press a record cipressa time will yield a selection of 20 riders. How much contact those 20 riders have is an open question and if any of them are teammates with Pogi to the extent he doesn't mind if he's together with those other 20 is another question.

Are we assuming Ganna, Pedersen, and MVP also going previous record climbing of the Cipressa as suggested by LRCP broe and benji? Even in a draft I am struggling with this idea. I need smarter people than me telling me (not benji) it's possible.

Does UAE get anyone in the break, or is this generally understood not be acceptable for top teams?
I would. I think though that it is generally deemed to be pointless in MSR as the break never survives to the point where the big guns start to fire as the action is so deep into the race unlike Flanders and Roubaix where top 10 finishes from the early break of the day are quite regular
