I had doubts about the material. Maybe they chose it wrong in the Dauphine because of the climb.
But I've never understood the idea that a completely flat time trial would benefit Vingegaard when Pogacar is bigger and used to riding classics. He is more used to riding on flat.

Vingegaard's last completely flat time trial was at the 2023 Vuelta, and it was pretty mediocre. The same year as Combloux.

It turned out to be a big GC day for Pogacar. Now he's 1'13'' ahead of Vingo, way better than expected.

I think Pogacar should do Rwanda time trial.

Remco is the big favorite, but there are two hard climbs and two descents.

He was a little faster than Remco in the final part today because it was more technical.

He should give it a try, who knows when the WC TT route will be as good for him again. He would have a decent shot at gold (if he's near peak form).

I think tomorrow is a harder parcours that should entice more breakaway riders to attack. I honestly don't think Alpecin will pace because the final 700 meters should suit Pogi more than MVDP.
I'm curious about Arkea since Vauquelin seems good right now

Last year, he also made up some ground on Remco time trial in the descent. It would be difficult, but it will be his only chance to become world champion. And if Tobias Foss did it, he'd have to :tearsofjoy:

Seriously, I think he has a chance if he chooses his gear better than he did in the Dauphiné.
The Kigali descents are difficult, and Remco could lose time there.
He has nothing to lose by trying.

Ok, so far there were three riders (Remco, MVDP and Jonas) that when combined by best traits could compete with Pogačar. But he is closing the gap and fast. He's starting to beat MVDP in his terrain, he's closing on Remco in ITT and he's surpassed Vinge in high mountains.

It seems that Pogi dropped Vingo and then cooked himself. He visibly slowed down just before the top.
He was either at limit or accurately gauged the effort to go solo to the finish. He wouldn't have held that gap with the amount of downhill against the group and made the appropriate choice. Smart move. He wasted no excess energy in the process.

Remco is Remco, he will be very strong even on Kigali course. But Pogacar's chances will be better than on over 90% of WC TT courses.
