well I do remember some interviews where he said he was targeting the ITT and wanted to measure himself directly against remco.

that didn't turn out so well, though he got his best placing ever, and possibly the illness he had had a big effect (tho he certainly seemed fine in Montreal). I still think Pog fans are over-reacting. I still expect a domination by him in the RR.

I've told you before that he isn´t trained a lot. For him, taking the time trial bike is training, because he never takes it after the Tour. But two or three days for someone who's not a specialist is nothing. Remco is a specialist and has trained for weeks for this day; Pogacar, who had to beat the specialist, has only trained for a couple of days. That's training, but ridiculously insufficient.

Remco beated Pogacar fair and square. If Pogacar was at his best? I don't think so, but this was a total humiliation. There are no excuses for such a poor performance. At any rate, Evenepoel today lived up to every acolade given him, even when the December crash devastated his season and all the stress with having to leave Soudal.

Pogacar will never find a WC easy just because he's from Slovenia. He knows that this makes it more difficult than if he were Belgian or French.
Last year he emphasized how difficult it was for him to win a WC and how difficult it was for them (Slovenia).

watch when he crushes remco in the road race how I won't make any excuses. in fact, I have posted already that I fully expect a pog rampage (yes, even after today). am I hoping that remco (and others) provide a little more of a test? sure. but I won't say that they were all ill, had a bad day, weren't targeting the race, or not trained for it.

? Well, to start, that he was a bit sick before Canada and that meant not doing the last prep on the TT bike. Then to say he had to do Montreal to be in top shape for the RR. Fair enough, but had Remco gotten passed by Pogi and said something similar all hell would have broken loose rest assured.

Pogacar said BEFORE Canada that he had difficulties. Remco's problem is that before the Tour he said he was fine. Contradictions don't help credibility.

That said, you're going to get very few words from Pogacar with excuses in 7 years of career.
And you could make a book out of some riders' excuses. Ayuso has a thousand more excuses in 4 years than Pogacar in 7.

Pogacar had already mentioned the problems he had before Canada. It's very different from saying everything was going perfectly and then suddenly, after a loss, saying it was a lie that he was fine and that he was injured or sick.

But compared to others, you can't say Pogacar is a rider who makes excuses. We have to be honest and admit that's not the case for him.

My problem is not with Pogacar. It's with people having double standards. You can fit the narrative of before and after. But it boils down to the same thing. Riders giving explanations to the media. Some people double standards just getting exposed as of late. First with the Remco is not a GT guy thing, now this.

I've not seen certain posters today as well in the Remco thread. No doubt they'll pop up next week when Pogacar wins the RR.

I just stated it's completely different. Pogacar said he was sick (before going to Canada) in Canada. There is not an incoherence in his speech. My problem is not with Remco giving excuses, my problem is with his diehard fans who defend him for every reason.

You're overanalyzing these interviews because he hasn't met your expectations for the time trial. What he's saying isn't arrogant. The main training sessions are done; in two days, he's not going to change if he's exhausted from the Tour, nor will he get back into shape.He has to do the final training sessions. The important thing is that these days he'll be at altitude, something he didn't do before ITT.

What do you want him to do? 6 full hard trainings on 6 different days? We don't know what kind of hard training he's doing but I would think he knows what to actually do to be in shape for Sunday.

What was Remco supposed to say before the Tour? That during my last altitude camp after a lackluster Dauphine I was horrible? It's easy to not get excuses by Pogacar over 7 years when he almost always wins. Yet today we got excuses. Never talk about crashes at Roubaix, just nock on wood (or touch metal, however goes the superstition). 😉

The saddest thing is that Pogacar certainly has few true fans, despite his greatness. It's paradoxical that Jonas or Remco always have a hard core that supports them, regardless of the results. Instead he's practically alone against everyone: foaming haters and so-called "fans" who constantly complain, even after every victory (because he didn't win more stages, because he only won by 30 seconds, because he waited until the last kilometers, etc.). The latter are even the worst. This is truly sad.

His "arrogance" is other thing. He underestimated Remco. He didn't go to altitude, he didn't prepare the TT conveniently (he wouldn't win even if he did) and I think he will have a surprise next sunday.

Pogacar has said Remco would have won anyway. Remco said he would have won an Amstel that Skjelmose won and Pogacar was second .
I don't even want to think about what you would have said if Pogacar had said he would have won Paris-Roubaix if he hadn't crashed. There are differences.

You'll find twice as many excuses that Ayuso ha said in four years as Pogacar in seven. When a cyclist is a big excuse-maker, you don't have to go search one or two; you can see by the repetition.

But I can't keep quiet when Pog makes excuses, which he absolutely did today (the fact that he did only testifies to his humiliation), and isn't held by the same standards by the GOAT brigade.

After seeing Kimihurura, I think the route is perfect for him. There isn't a rider able to follow him if he shows in the same shape of RVV.

Besides, overtraining isn't good either.

Nothing will change in a week, nor will it undo the mistake of going to Canada or being sick.

What most people will do is those two high-intensity workouts, and the rest of the days will be riding more slowly and getting used to the altitude.

Nothing will change in a week's preparations for this WC. It's the final fine-tuning.
