I feel a bit stupid for never having thought of this but if Pogacar would have spent more time on altitude without the injury, why didn't he do his home training at altitude? The way I understand altitude training, it should work just as well on a home trainer in a hotel room in Sierra Nevada, right? What am I missing here?
I remember reading somewhere that injuries heal slower at altitude.

"I feel good, the wrist is not in ideal shape, but it doesn't affect my legs. I hope the wrist will hold for the whole and I must avoid falls. Of course latest performance gives me confidence. I'm mentally prepared, fresher, so this weekend on the national championship is an ideal opportunity to stretch my legs and fill my lungs." said Pogi to the press before tomorrow race.

Trentin was very good in Dauphine. He is still good enough to go for a stage-win or something.

Novak is more of a "pure" domestic. Not to patronize him but he will probably be fetching a lot of bottles. Maybe staying with Pog and be his roomate during the race. He is his countryman and that is something not to underestimate. It could be important for him to have that support. Three weeks is a long time. It is not just the hours they race each day.

They still have Bjerg and Laengen for the flat, outside of Novak.

Majka, Soler, Grosschartner and Yates should be enough support for the mountains.

Of course, Trentin is the better rider but Novak still serves a good purpose for Pog.

Trentin will probably race worlds and Vuelta.
At their current shape and purpose for the Tour squad, Trentin over Novak any day.

If we're talking about support in the hotel room after each stage, Bjerg could easily fill that role. Aren't they usually roommates in races that they ride together? There's no problem in that department.

Bjerg and Laengen are good on the flat. They're good rouleurs for the squad. Just don't think they are enough. Adding Trentin to UAE's rouleur squad would be amazing for them. Trentin could be the road captain and he can put Pogacar in a good position before climbs.

As you said, the mountain support for Pogacar is already stacked with four really good climbers. I don't think putting Novak in adds much more to their climbing squad.

I know the PCS startlist ain't final yet but I really hope they put Trentin over Novak.

UAEA is completly reckless if they prefer Novak over Trentin. They are facing Vingegaard and Pogi is starving for a revenge. They should not underestimate the fact Pogi had a broken wrist 2 months ago and probably isn't confort enough to race flat stages with all stress and drama inerent to these type of stages. Trentin is a powerhorse who likes hard races and can be very useful to leadout Pogi in uphill sprints like the one we will have in stage 8.
Novak will do the work everyone can do.

I would be surprised if they take Novak to the Tour. He have many race days already. Almost looking like he riding many 1 week races but non GT.
Plus he been quite bad this season and haven't seen any pictures of him with Pogacar, Yates, Majka etc on altitude camp.

I think they been waiting to see how Wellens trained after his injury and had Trentin as backup. Also if you didn't want Trentin at the Tour, you would think he had been at the Giro to support Almeida and Vine.

Before I leave for Radovljica to watch the road race, for those interested, here you have direct link to an article in which you can find the official broadcast with commentary, from 16.15 CET forward. Inside, you will see a big window with rainbow coloured play button, which you click and it will play :) again, hopefully it's not geo-blocked.

Sometimes they make a new article during the day, if that should be the case, just find it on the main page and follow the procedure, it will probably have Pogi or some other cyclist for the title picture.

Enjoy!
