So the prospects of finally getting the battle royale we were denied in 2014 was too good to be true after all. Someone had to chicken out. Would be hilarious if Pog rode the Giro like Ullrich/Rasmussen/Armstrong, but that's not gonna happen in this day and age. The exposure of the top riders is too valuable for that.

Yeah, I think it can be good for the Giro too, but for De Ronde? Liège? The Tour?

If he goes Giro-Tour with main season goals of Giro, Olympics and Worlds, he cannot afford a full spring campaign.
He is confirmed for Strade, Tirreno and MSR, right?

Maybe he could do Flanders and Liège as the only race days between those races and the Giro. Remco has shown that something like that is possible.

But maybe that is a little bit wishful thinking on my part. It would certainly make it impossible for him to go altitude training.

If he is really confident that he can win the Giro with sub prep, he can do all the major races. I just can't believe that he will do that nor that it would bring great success for him over the season.

Maybe. Hopefully he will take a look at Valverde's 2016 schedule to see what's possible to combine and get some inspiration.

(Not that it was that successful for Valverde but it sure was ambitious).

Why not? Pog can actually be in a good form in Liege before the Giro (like Evenepoel was this year). I see Liege as a possible, final form test before the race.
It's certainly possible but it's more likely Pogi will be at altitude then, IMO

All in all Giro 2024 just became a top tier GT race. Considering all top tier GC riders saying they are doing the Tour and considering Vuelta organisers want to make it hard(er) race. Looks like a sweet GT season ahead!

Well, it will be very interesting to see what schedule he'll pick. So much to choose from.

I think he'll target Liege - he basically missed last two editions and should be fighting for victory in pre-Giro form. Milan-San Remco's timing (middle of March) is way more difficult - it can be hard (or impossible) for Pogi to have his usual early season peak and also peak in May. Cobbles classics are out of question - it would make no sense to build a monster peak there (which he would need against the big boys) and instead he will add some one-week race (like Tour of Basque Country), methinks. He won Amstel + Fleche this year and will likely skip them to have some altitude training next season. It seems his classics season will be strongly influenced by the Giro.

From the Spanish retreat in Alicante in which the UAE is training, we caught up with Mauro Gianetti, team principal of the Emirates team, by phone: "The Giro is a great race and it was very clear that Tadej would be there sooner or later," explained the Swiss manager. We had been thinking about it for several weeks, but we only withdrew our reservations in the very last few hours. The reason? This year's Corsa Rosa has a more balanced and not too hard route, which may allow Tadej to arrive ready for the Tour de France as well. As always, Pogačar will come to Italy with the aim of putting on a show and aiming for the best result.

With the Giro-Tour double in sight, then, a slightly lighter spring for the Slovenian phenomenon than in 2023. The debut could take place at the Strade Bianche (2 March), while defending the sceptre at the Tour of Flanders looks more complicated. Tadej also has a score to settle with the Ardennes Classics (and in particular Liège-Bastogne-Liège), so it is fair to expect him to be battling it out in Wallonia as a last test before the Corsa Rosa.

Probably only 1 altitude camp would be sufficient for Pogacar, based on his spring performance in 2023 (this would be between MSR and FW). But most riders would do 2 Altitude camps with this schedule, with one in late January/early Feb

Yes probably something like this - maybe amstel intead of fleche or no fleche/amstel and only liege though that leaves him undercooked if he goes to liege with ambitions to win (and this is Pogi so he will be).
