Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

That's crazy money for a sport without a league and shared broadcast revenue.
Yes, Pog's value is limited by the size of the pool he plays in but away from soccer and American sports its still a huge contract.

The below linked article on putting a price on the Tour is interesting.

Vingegaard attacked twice and dropped Pogacar twice. Pogacar attacked 20 times and didn't drop Vingegaard once. Simply based on that I tend to believe that Vingegaard could've dropped Pogacar on another mountain stage had he tried.

Again, if you say "Vingegaard has never won 1 on 1 based on pure power" you can say that Pogacar has never won a Tour when his main opponent is healthy, can't you?
That's not true. Vingegaard tried to drop Pogacar in Galibier, LPDBF and he can't.

I thought i was clear with my ideas but somehow...🤕. I just explained the scenarios where pog lost the 2022 tour. Those two attacks u are mentioning are the granon and hautacam attacks right? Well on granon it doesn't need explanation for a person who atleast rode a bike once in his lifetime i.e if you do the work twice more than your competitor then he is twice fresher than you for the last climb. But let me explain the hautacam one & i hope you read it thoroughly, what happened on stage 6 of 2023 tdf? ving attacked pog on the last 2 kms of tourmalet brought him all the way up the climb then on cauterets cambasque he attacked and lead him out for 5 kms & 2.5 kms to go pog attacked and took 25 seconds on him and if the climb was longer he would have taken a minute.
*So are u telling me pog was that much better than ving in 2023? I think u believe ving was better than him in 2023 right? This was exactly what happened on hautacam where pog attacked 5 times & rode all the way up almost half spandels & was desperate again to bring him all the way down the descent & crashed as well in the end then paid for it on hautacam. If this doesn't explain for you idk what?

The only times Vinge has ever dropped Pogi on equal terms have been on the Ventoux and Marie Blanque if I remember well. By this I mean that both of them arrive with their strength reserved for that final moment and not one of them attacking like crazy on the previous climb...

Idk if we can say equal terms on scorching temperature of ventoux when pog has never done heat training at that point in his career if ving was better that year he should have beaten him on col de portet and luz ardiden which were 50 &35 minute climbs but ridden on 15 degree celsius days.

I'd also think Tadej will be prepared for the upcoming Tour, particularly if all serious riders are on a healthy track. No bonking this trip.

NBA is a huge market in a huge country. USA don't even care about cycling, specially after LA.
NBA is a huge market, worldwide. Why else would there be feeder leagues everywhere in Europe? Nikola Jocic was the leagues MVP for '21, '22. Most US colleges have players from other continents and sponsors love stars to endorse their products. Very lucrative now that the NCAA lets athletes solicit support.
As for cycling; you're correct and it's part the LA fallout but much more due to USA Cycling's failure to keep events supported and even in existence. It's a death from within, though.

I never tried more to understand Italian. So he didn't really say he will go to Flanders?
Shouldn't deepl, if not google translate as well, be good enough?
Anyway:

Pogi said:
-Tour is the culminating point, "central point", of the year. I'm aware that I'll have to challenge Vingegaard, it's a huge rivarly; I expect him to get stronger and stronger.
- Sanremo will be in the schedule
- I'll take a few rounds on clobblestones (gazzetta assumes it must mean Flanders)
- South Africa's world championship

Gianetti said:
- he has to catch his breath a bit, he won't start so soon*
- double tour Giro-TdF* or TdF-Vuelta is still on the table. He really liked the giro a lot, he was happy to run the giro because of its atmosphere and the affection he got from the people
- No to Roubaix: we cannot expect him to play the phenom at all times and all places

*I don't know what 'start' or 'soon' are referring to: it came out that they want him to run the damn 'UAE Tour' in 2025.
Reason being he wears the world championship jersey and had skipped it for two years straight.
The problem is that said stupid race takes place the 17th of February, while Sanremo is on the 22nd of March and even Strade Bianche is only on the 8th of March.
I know Pogi doesn't need to run 'UAE Tour' being anywhere close to peak form, but still...
I guess it just means he'll wait a bit longer than usual before training really seriously.

** I doubt he'll do the Giro-Tour double again this year. I exptect Gianetti to have said that mostly because they were talking to Gazzetta.
They must be still pondering whether to do TdF-Vuelta. The south africa's world championship is particularly suited to Pog.
Therefore the obvious dilemma is whether doing the Vuelta (even more so after a Tour) will impact his odds of winning the WC.
Pog is expected to be able to win a Vuelta in years and years to come.
WC.. maybe not so much: in 2027 and 2028 the WC might be way easier, idk, so...
