If he’s not injured, the cold will be to keep the inflammation down and help with any soreness to make the next days feel better. I’m sure he can be off form a little returning to the pro peloton, and at the Tour no less. Stretching also helps with soreness done before and after the workout.

Doesnt have to be an injury.

I think it is mainly because of the recovery aspects.

and, per Salvarini it helps the recovery of the heat impact. The amount of late effort they've put into these stages is also a shock to the system from the typical Tour.

And yet still wasting energy like last year

Vinge had to react to UAE action so it's not like he was resting there. It was a very short effort anyway. The real energy spender last year was the cobbles stage (Pogacar went very hard there for a few dozens of kilometers and still got almost nothing over Vinge, who was on mighty Wout's wheel) and Galibier+Telegraphe (not only responding to combined attacks but also setting the pace in the second part of Galibier).

If he ends up losing this Tour in the high mountains it’s not going to be because of wasted energy. He’s the best all around rider in the world but bonus seconds might be all he gets the entire tour.

Pogačar will have a tough time meeting his three stage wins per GT quota. I‘d be sad to see that statistic go away.

There is still a lot of time to win those 3 stages. He was close at the opening weekend but no cigar. Still, stage wins aren't the priority and ... neither is the Tour win. It all about making history with 4th consecutive white jersey for our eternal youngster. And you know what? Vinge has no chance!

I think Pogi looks good. So good in fact that the narrative changed quickly from Jumbo will test him in the opening stages to how much boni seconds can he land over Vingo.

One possibility also is that he's not yet 100%, but he wants to appear very strong to scare Jumbo enough to not test him and just focus on protecting Vingo.

But I think it's just Pog way of riding, he's always been like this.
