He attacked where he wanted to do. Had Majka to set him up. You don’t need the whole team on the last climb. Let the others take some rest here, they will be there when it matters. You can’t judge from 1 little mountain stage. Not everyone is good the first days, some sprint stages coming up so time enough to get the legs rolling.

Probably took a bit of a breather between LBL and the Giro. Your form temparily goes down a bit as but it the rest pays off as you get back into racing.

Hard to compare so different races but looking at gaps its possible that his form in Liege was higher than yesterday. Maybe they decided that he was too good too early and let him rest more.

He might just peddled in a bit. Take a gap, and then ride at your own pace.

The point system that ranks Valverde ahead of Indurain?

I see Pogi only overtook Rebellin after yesterday, so they are practically equal. Great ranking.
Best ranking in my book.
Good to you if you value only wins. I suppose to you Terpstra was a better rider than Van Avermaet.

What a finale of a zzz stage. Not the smartest if your Pog indeed. Anyway week 3 will be where he needs to be smart thats where the efforts will stick to him more than anything and will take with him in recovery and into the tour etcetc.. But indeed this is not the smartest way to do it 2km hardt effort I dont know how much it sticks but if this is how he will race all the time all the small ones will add up, doubt it continues. Great for us viewers tho and he just seems to have the time of his life and its pog he cant help himself weve seen it before he smells blood(stage win) he will go for it thats was cannibals are, true to his nature he cant help it it seems, not his fault he is who he is, even tho its not always smart.

It's true he needs to save energy, but a 3 minutes effort after a 4h "casual ride" is not going to cost him anything.
But it is stupid... however this is the reason for him being my favourite rider. He is something else!

I think Thomas was on the limit more than playing cagey. He had to sprint to bridge the gap in the critical moment.
Over about 3 minutes Thomas went from 110% in to close the gap/brief recovery/might as well pull though and see what happens (which netted about 2 good turns)/just hanging on/nope, we're getting caught, active recovery commences now. It worked, he and Pogi rolled in together around 45th place in the middle of the front group without Thomas having to do that one last effort.
