Interesting. If I remember correctly an interview I saw from San Millan, he basically explained that the training he provides allow for Pogi to maintain a very high level all year round.
In my opinion, this is the benefit from Z2 and his training formula, basically it is stimulating while not very taxing on the body. So he can basically "train good" all year round and maintain a very high level.
The problem is that this way you never really achieve your full potential, it is like you stay at 80% all the time, of course with someone as talented as Pogi, it is enough to win most of the time. But if you want to get to 100%, you need that big spark of intensity. Which is where I think Pogi has improved massively this past year and what he mentions as " more specific training ".
