There are some haters really waiting for him to fail.
Yes they are but i still think a big majority is excited whenever he is racing. That makes some haters just more vokal. If someone would tell me in 2015 there will be GC rider (the best GC rider od top of that) in 10 years who will be favorite at Flanders, even bigger favorite at LBL and absolute dominator at Lombardia i would say "c'mon you are idiot". On top of that, he will do it with all time breaks and will try attack even on flat stages... that would be just dream after sky era. When i heard about Remco i though he is that guy but Pogi brought everything to some other level. Also every race where he is at-3x more comments in every forum... so boring for some people but majority is loving it.

This is one of the reasons for Pogacar being disliked. Some people (specially Belgians) don't stand the fact Pogacar is what we supposed Remco would be.
No one thought in 2018/2019, "Pogacar is better than Remco".

Thats only because they overestimated his junior results. He skipped the U23s.

Pog still won Tour de l'Avenir. Had done well in a lot of other races prior and after it. Some pro races. Coming from a small nation he didnt get the same attention or hype though.

When people go off hype alone, they will usually be wrong.

He skipped the U23s because he was too good. However due to Remco's hype, Pogacar flight under the radar and was growing and becoming better and better until he strikes that massive surprise in the 2020 Tour.

He had sill finished 3rd in the Vuelta and had amazing first pro season. I think that sometimes gets undervalued as well.

Then there was a long break during 2020. It is very possible he would showed a great level during the first half of that year if it had been races, but due to the circumstances he came into that Tour 2020 still flying under the radar as a real threat.

The progress is amazing and he has shown he is the greatest. Majority of fans love him and he is a great ambassador for the sport. What is most important.

Most popular rider in the world and the best.

Best since 2021, most popular since 2023.

No prizes to anyone who has been a long term Forumite for knowing flat stages are always whinged about here. So when we get the first rider since Merckx capable of making flat stages interesting we still whinge . Hilarious.
It's because he's among the biggest hypocrites around. In the Tour 2021 he threw a tantrum at Kwiatkowski because he wanted to join the breakaway that already had formed. Just earlier in the stage yesterday Novak goes policemen around some Bardiani riders who wanted to join the break after it had already formed.
But when he himself attacks on the flat while other riders are actually stopping to take a piss, he's suddenly DA GOAT who makes cycling entertaining.

Same way he crafts his PR cult when he feels competitors are too passive in unfavorable terrain. Had no problems wheelsucking Vingegaard in 2023 or others in the Worlds that year but when others are not going into self-destruction he starts whining to the media like in first half of the Tour last year.

Bizarre cult around him who seem to think he can't do wrong because he smiles into the camera a lot.
Lets also not forget the reaction he had against van baarle in Tour Flandres.

Definitely a new Lance Armstrong on the making. How couldn't we see that?

Most of the Pogacar fans here complain when people criticise Pogacar whatever he does as if he can't do anything right, but the very same people praise whatever he does as if he never does anything wrong.
And that's exactly as annoying as the former.

And I myself like Pogacar but he seems like the utter Insta-friendly (ultra PR) boy who smiles in front of the camera and does things that are annoying but nobody is too arsed about them.
Pogacar didn't bother to give the win to Pellizzari, as great champions would do (like Contador, whom I didn't like did) and he was praised as hero because he gave him a jersey. Like WTF?
Pogacar joins the break in a useless sprint stage, doing nothing but steal the show from the lesser riders and he is glorified like the saviour of cycling for that?? Like seriously?

To be fair Remco had junior results and performances way beyond pretty much every rider in the last 40 years.

Pogacar was a good junior but not an exceptional one and it was at 18/19 when he made the big strides forward.

Even so, the point was about people overhyping and someone else being undervalued/underrated at the time.

Which someone else pointed out mainly may have been because of nationality.

Indeed.
The more firmly an opinion is voiced, the more firmly those that disagree will voice their counter-opinions. That's how debates get polarised.

It also doesn't help when you have a sub-set of fans of certain teams or riders who interpret everything other than blind, devotional praise as unwarranted tearing down, and also when double standards are applied. For example, you had people saying that it was totally wrong that I voice my (highly negative) opinions of Peter Sagan, but the forum back in 2015-16 was chocked full of posts about how wonderful the man was. But apparently one poster who disagrees was enough to be "spoiling" and "polluting" the forum by negativity. Yet at the same time as that was going on, stepping into the Valverde or Froome threads would see pages on pages of vitriol as bad as anything I was throwing at Sagan and more - but because those riders weren't so popular, that apparently wasn't "spoiling" or "polluting" the forum. Coincidentally, most of the trolling in that particular saga wasn't the "haters" trolling the fans, it was the other way round - Sagan fans continuing to needle me on the subject in order to provoke the expected negative reaction, so that they could shout at me for being negative. It works both ways.

I'm sorry that the polarised debate has come up about a subject you're passionate about, but 3000 posts of "this guy is the most wonderful thing in the world" adds nothing to the forum either, and lovebombing the forum while silencing those who disagree and labelling them as haters only serves to turn perceived "haters" into real ones.
