It was never in doubt. If he was to be cautious it would be in anticipation of the rest of his schedule.

He said in an interview that his form is good so he can afford to take it easy the next 3 or 4 days and then resume normal training.

Now you will count non monuments as a monuments just for him to reach the GOAT Merckx?

Would be more complicated if he was due to race TA but he should easily recover with minimal interference with his form for MSR.
