It is different. MSR is a tactical race not RVV.
I'm talking about for pog. As we have seen today vdp can match pogs fresh accelerations like on kwaremont, koppenberg,taignberg... but it gets too much for him to follow on last kwaremont after all this climbs. Thats why pog just can't drop vdp on cipressa. he needs 2 or 3 cipressa to drop vdp.

Next year I believe Pogi will make it, Mathieu is getting older.
He will try but i dont see how he drops him. Look at how fast vdp was catching pog on 2nd kwaremont. Its just one all out climb(cipressa) and vdp can follow easy

Yup, I agree. He needs luck there, and by luck I mean a MVP badly positioned.

I wouldn't say easily. But Pogi could take a year off of MSR and MVP will regret that when he has to chase everyone down as usual.

I will never say July is far after seeing LBL 2023

Yea PR is next week. Then just 2 weeks after we have LBL. And then its only 10 weeks until start of TdF...

10 weeks to get in "3 weeks climbing monster shape". This is not a lot when we think about it haha..obviously Pogi is a different beast but still this is quite a feat.

The base level is there so 9 weeks to get better specifically in the mountains should not be worrying. However, it is different to prepare a Tour with "only" 10 weeks than a rider like Vingegaard who is preparing the Tour since January.

Hindsight BS, but you have to wonder if Mathieu just should have tried not to follow Pog on Koppenberg. It was clear that Pog was working him over. Let Pog dangle out there, maybe he tries to go all the way from Koppenberg. Work with Visma and Trek, save some power.

Sure, that's not the mentality MvdP has and it's hard to think that way during all out effort. But on forums one can speculate. :)
Perhaps. But mvp doesn’t want to finish with Wout or pedersen. So better to try to hang with pogi alone

Mads Pedersen to Danish TV after talking about the crash and how UAE/Pogi lost some domestiques:

Interviewer:

Isn't it a bit of an advantage, that he was isolated so early?
Mads:

(Laughing) Obviously not. He destroys us anyway. Hats off, we can't do anything about it. We try and try and try, but he's just the greatest rider ever.
If Mads says Pogi is the GOAT - he's the GOAT.

Pretty much this. Just like MSR, there's only one way for each of these riders to win this race. And if the other doesn't encounter bad luck and is in peak-shape Mathieu will always win MSR and Tadej will always win RVV.

Yup the level of the competitors should also be taken into account when evaluating one achievements.
Merckx faced great opponents, but Vingegaard and MVDP are above anyone Merckx had to face.
Merckx got his palmares due to lack of specialization in his era. In the big mountain stages, he lost often huge amounts of time to climbers. And cycling in classics was almost a national road race in Belgium. We can't compare, the difference is massive! Merckx can be considered the GOAT but a lot of peoplr recognize Pogacar is the most freak rider, cycling has ever seen. He is changing this sport with his power and agressiveness. Cipressa was a walk in the park for more than 20 years but now it is where the decisive attack is made. His attack in Zurich. His participation in PR.
