No Christen? His team looks very weak since almost all of them are in bad shape.

Almeida should be there, but once again they prioritize winning races ( Romandie) over supporting their principal leader.

Pogacar shouldn't be too happy about this situation. His teammates win other races, some of them at a very low leve like in Abruzzo, and when they have to work for him they're exhausted.

Without a doubt, Pogacar's achievements are difficult to surpass in his sport over 30 years, as has been the case since Roche, and Pogacar´s season is better.

Duplantis's record is impressive, but he could achieve a greater one and winning the award.

Nowadays it seems impossible for a cyclist to be awarded.
At least they´ve awarded Duplantis in the Tennis and F1 award.
Lance Armstrong damaged the sport pretty hard. Cycling is still recovering from that.

Both will be in Romandie, but yeah, his team is very weak.

The Itzulia team was better than that one in terms of shape, and it's possible that the Romandia team isn't any worse.

They prioritize winning everything over their leader feeling supported after being alone in all the classics.

Some have been due to accidents, but others have been due to arriving exhausted from participating in every race.
Seeing them win at Coppi-Bartali and Abruzzo and seeing Pogacar only win in the classics is quite pitiful.

At least everyone will be in top form at the Tour, because the Tour's teammates only will do the Dauphine and the Suisse.
This spring's management has been disastrous for the UAE; they've given Pogacar an exhausted teams.

Same but Tour de France 2020 is where he became my favorite rider. It was embarassing to see Roglic wheelsucking all the way to Paris but he ended being destroyed in a TT tailormade for him. Amazing moment!
Why are you saying something is not truth?

Yes, Roglic could had been more active, but he didn't wheelsucked Pogacar all the way to Paris. He attacked on La Loze, on Plateau de Glieres Pogacar was getting dropped. On Puy Mary Roglic was in the front for the majority of the climb putting a hard pace.

Pretty sure Rog attacked and pulled more that Tour overall he just happened to be the lightning rod for all the criticism towards Jumbo that Tour.

Jumbo completely strangled the race multiple times just like Sky did in their heydays and Roglic underestimate Pogacar and addopted a conservative way of racing and thankfully he got beaten.

I don't know. I really don't know if cycling is still recovering. it was 12 years ago no? Jan 2013.
"cycling" keeps going on and on. do you mean some sponsors that would like to enter the peloton are still scared by Lance's downfall?

Lance was more popular than Pogacar in his heydays and I think no one (from other sports) looks to cycling in the same way like they did 20 years ago.

Well Duplantis' achievements in his sport have not been matched pretty much exactely for the last 30 years, as well.
So I think this choice was well deserved.
Pogacars last year was very impressive, no doubt. But OK, some years there are two outstanding athletes, and in some of the past years - well some tennis player got the award for the n'th time.....

But being dominant in cycling is way more difficult than in Pole Vault.

Depends on the acutual meaning of "difficult" in this context.
In Pole Vault, for example, you cannot improve much by the kind of "support" which is discussed in the other part of the forum.

Cycling has more variety. You have mountains, gravel, cobbles, TTs. In Pole Vault, you don't.

Not really.

The difference between Pogacar and Armstrong is nationality. Pogacar will never be mainstream name in the United States. It has nothing to do with the state of the sport.

USA has 400 million people, Slovenia has 2. Huge difference. But I can't agree with you, cycling was in a bad place after Contador and LA bans.

I personally didn't feel like that. maybe I don't remember. was it that bad?
It was IMHO. Too much suspiciousness and lack of credibility. This is not the best place to talk about this because we are risking a warning/ban for talking about things that are discussed in other part of the forum.
