I don't think it's simply the setup.
McNulty is riding mediocre time trials this year, but Baroncicni and Vermeersch did very well in the Baloise ITT.

I suppose it has more to do with the fact that they didn't work on it in the training camp before the Dauphiné, because the entire UAE rode a mediocre time trial in the Dauphiné, while they did well in the Baloise.

Looking at how nice his TT-position actually looks (I noticed it during the Giro) Baroncini is actually underperforming in TTs.

Suppose he could always do a Remco and lose 20 min or whatever in a stage(Hautacam) and then go on to ruin the, possibly, career defining moments of your more average riders in the breakaways for a week or two. Granted Vinge would probably have to sandbag even more time to be allowed so.

I can totally see UAE/Pogacar policing the Peloton, not allowing Vingegaard to go in breaks even if he is an hour behind.
Not to mention the other teams. No one in his right mind sho work with Vingegaard if he is in the break.

Well they did with Remco knowing they would lose, but yes you are probably right that UAE wouldn't allow it out of spite. Always found it very perplexing that teams would let Remco ride away at all during that Vuelta but I am probably missing something.

It's hypothetical. He with almost certainty won't be since he will try to clinge on to Pogacar and likely end up second.

But if you asked people before the Vuelta in which Remco sandbagged if he would have been allowed in the break if he did, most would likely have said no. Yet it happened, sure not as ridiculous as having Vinge in the breaks but not far off either.

So if he breaks(sandbagging or just totally bonks) would he be allowed to do so?

Vingegaard's only advantage relies on beating Pogacar in the flat TT (by a decent margin just like in the Dauphiné) and pray to follow Pogacar in the mountains.

Despite Dauphiné, it is more likely Pogi performs better than Jonas in a flat TT.

Vingegaard is a natural climber. He will never lose big time in the mountains unless he has a heavy crash.

I think they will be close. Maybe Pogi will lose some time but not much. The simplest explanation of that Dauphine TT is that Pog simply had worse legs. This happens sometimes but it should be better during the Tour.

This happens only with Pogacar because Del Toro let a Visma rider win the Giro instead of Carapaz.

Sure, but in these situations they've had reasons to do so. If Visma aren't in the fight for the overall win or the podium, UAE would just make Visma look like a team of 4 Simeonis and 4 Bassons if they hunt them down for 3 weeks straight, and they would be wasting energy for no logical reason.

Yes, so more focus on catching breaks than setting a hard pace on the climbs, Pogačar can defend himself on the uphill.

Sivakov, Yates and Almeida can create chaos on the last climb but Politt, Narvaez, Soler and Wellens will sufocate the peloton before.

This is completely biased by the last TT, but it's normal for it to be ahead. It would be more accurate if it were the third week and the route included climbs, at least with the pre-2024 Pogi.
