Just watching now. I think mission accomplished. Loosen, soften, or lose MVP prior to the finish. Go for the stage win. You could tell from almeida this was the objective. Was never to gain GC time. A yellow would have been a bonus. It’s looking like Vingo to gain the yellow and visma will have to defend it, which is perfect.
Perfect for sure..and all the best turning up the heat up the climb really put time into almost everyone except for @20 riders..Visma if they get yellow soon will get worked over.. Saw a Johan Bruyneel thing this week about how many calories riders are burning.. Pogacar looked good.. But Almeida looked like he was pretty fresh afterwards!! These top guys are recovered shortly after the finish!!

Remco, Vingegard, Pogacar, Almeida, Roglic, Jorgenson, Skjelmose, MvDP in that order for tomorrow. I just hope Pogacar doesn't give up more than 15 seconds to Vingegard, so he can gain that back on stage 7.

100th win today, wow! Just amazing what he has achieved so far.

This was his first pro win, stage 2 of Volta ao Algarve 2019, not that long ago. An uphill finish when he really came to the forefront. Includes his interview at the end of the video.

This was a serious, Big Boy effort. MvP was being pressed on the last two hills and managed an exceptional sprint but Tadej was seriously motivated.
Anyone that wonders how he can do that and be a GC climber only needs to stop his finish line post-up, arms raised. The guy has an incredibly athletic upper physique.

He also got an Insane 78 WT wins out of these 100 pro wins, if I didn't miscount.

Who's going to give Pogacar his references tomorrow? Politt? This year, Politt is having mediocre time trials.

He'll have to wait for Almeida's references.
They will ride the course tomorrow before official start, so he will have a pretty good idea anyway.

Then it is probably just more about wind directions or if you can ride specific parts faster/slower.

Small details on set-up.

Adam lost another 7 minutes today.

He should be fresh in the mountains, but there's still uncertainty about his performance at mountain because he hasn't climbed well all year.

As soon as Visma took the lead, they easily overtook UAE.

Only Almeida could match Visma's pace.
At least in the mountains, UAE shouldn't be outclassed in situations like this.

Again this talk about Yates? Can you wait for the mountains to have reliable information?

Aru was washed when he went to UAE. Kristoff (don't even know how he got yellow in the Tour 2020) was far from his best self too.
There's little talk about how the UAE was a disaster, and that Pogacar shone in the 2019 Vuelta as a rookie and won the 2020 Tour in a mediocre team.

UAE was on par with Total Energies in the Vuelta. A complete disaster of performance. Aru and Henao crawled the entire Vuelta.

In the 2020 Tour, only de la Cruz had any level in mountain. He was the only one against Kriswijk, Kuss, Van Aert, Doumolin... the rest were sprinters, DNFs, and mediocre performances.

I would´ve liked to see Vingegaard in such a mediocre team in a GT.

I rewatched the last 10 km and Vingegaard sprinted to not get dropped. He went completely over his limit there. I don't know if he will keep up on longer climbs.
You could say it's the first time he drop Jonas (or almost) on this kind of climb in the Tour.

One has been improving his strength and explosiveness all year; I don't think the other has done much since the Classics.
