Vingegaard has been preparing for the Tour all year. Pogacar was at Paris-Roubaix in April, and it wasn't until May that he started training for the Tour.

This is a moral blow for Vingegaard, even though Visma's entire media is now saying otherwise.
Well, if he does Roubaix next year the TDF is not guaranteed.
Especially if Visma are smarter because their tactics is stupid.

Clearly in 2024 he was better than this year. Yes, he was tired but he was pushing alien numbers in the last 3 days.
Now he is looking human.
I'm pretty sure the classics preparation hinders his GT capacity.
Correlation does not equal causation. Vingegaard did higher W/kg on Plateau de Beille than Hautacam. Must I infer that a Basque hospital for a few weeks is a better preperation than actual training?

"I'm pretty sure the classics preparation hinders his GT capacity." It might be but I'm not so sure. In this tour he has clearly been sick (week 2 and 3) and he had a bad crash. Imo we might be totally underestimating these two factors simply because he's pogacar and we think he's a machine. At the dauphine imo he looked absolutely great, especially the combloux stage and that was after the classics season. He might have peaked too soon and also to me it's still unexplainable his bike change in the tour after he had never used that bike before

Looking at the interview and his face now, I think he's sick. It's possible he's coming down with the flu.
He had congestion, and recovering well in the race is difficult. They're physically at their limit, plus he had an accident, and a cold could have led to something worse.

His team taking control of the race could also be a fake pace.

I'm sure he's given a bit of confidence to Jonas, but it's too late now. In all normal racing circumstances, Jonas cannot yank 4:24 out of Pog now. Jonas might even be fired up and strutting the length of the Visma motorhome, but it's too late.

Wishful thinking. People want to believe Pogacar has a rival for the next year. Sorry guys, he won't.
Rewatched the last part.
Pogacar looked like he had more gas in his sprint. He was probably baiting Jonas to launch earlier but Vinge launched way too late.
Also the VAM was not bad considering Pog was slow pacing for a lot of time.
I overreacted when I said Pog is cooked. Looks okay to me but he was left without a team for almost the whole climb.

I don’t know how Jonas gains confidence when he literally dropped Pogi 0 times this Tour.
Because he's living in the right now - and as far as he's concerned he just beat Pog in a sprint. He's got to come away with something from this TdF, and as pathetic as it seems, today is his something. In truth, if he'd had any actual confidence in himself in the race today, he would've gone sooner and won. But he didn't and that's that.

The level difference between Pog and Jonas is more than the 4:24 that the gap shows. Pogacar knows it and Jonas knows it.

pog's level in this tour will remain one of the biggest question marks for me. I really believe he looked better at the dauphine (part of that is linked to the bike he has used at the tour). I have no idea of whether he really did not have the legs or he simply decided to not win all these stages
agree I don’t think Pogacar have been at his best this Tour.
