Pogacar is under contract - he has to do what the Team tells him or experience consequences. It's exactly like being a movie star - sometimes they have to do bad films because they are under contract - they have no choice.

I certainly don't buy the fatigue line - not when it is delivered less than 48 hours after the Tour with the Vuelta still weeks away.
There is also a clause under a contract

But he LOOKED tired throughout the last week. I don't know what is it not to buy.
Compare it to last year, when he seemed fresh and easy and we can see it ourselves.

Pog is 26.
Rogic won last year at age 34.
Horner won the Vuelta at 41.
Man, the stuff some people write on here, just wow.
Amen! So much noise around a decision, when it was so obvious that he ended the Tour far more drained (mainly mentally) than they expected, including him, and therefore, they adapted his calendar, with his choice made. And yeah, him not being able to win the Vuelta after an "8 years prime period" is not wild guess, it's just pure imagination.

Pogacar does whatever he wants.
No he doesn't. He is getting payed a lot of money and he has obligations, because these obligations are what makes him worth it for the sponsors. Do you think he wanted to do UAE Tour? Do you think he wants to do Le Tour every year?

Just because he's the best cyclist in the world, doesn't mean he can do whatever he wants. I'm sure his favourite season would be only one day races... imagine a team agreeing to that while paying him millions.

Just because Pogacar doesn't like the Tour doesn't mean he doesn't want to do it. They're two different things.

Contador has always said that his favorite race was the Giro and that he hated everything surrounding the Tour, but that the Tour gave him the ultimate glory and recognition.

I'm convinced Pogacar does want a fifth Tour. In fact, when he won the World Championships, people asked him if it was his best moment, and he said that winning his first Tour in 2020. He said the first Tour was the best moment of his career.

It's one thing if it's not the race he likes, like Contador, and another if he wants to ride it for what it means indeed, the fifth Tour.

In a few weeks, when he's rested, he'll be thinking about the fifth. Although right now, the Tour is the last thing he wants due to media exhaustion.

I didn't say he didn't want to do Le Tour, I said he didn't want to do it every year. And using your example, Contador didn't do the Tour in 2008.

Eitherway, my point was that he doesn't do whatever he wants. He has to compromise. Sometimes because of the sponsors, other times because of his teammates.

Contador didn't do Tour 2008 because his team wasn't allowed to, otherwise he would.

Skipping the Vuelta is not surprising at all. Even at the start of the Tour I knew decisions will be taken after the race, which is demanding and sucks out a lot of energy, especially given an all-out assault on classics this spring.

Besides, Pogi is a one-day races specialist at heart, who learned to climb a bit and thus is forced to do the Tour by his rich sponsor.

Now everyone knows that Pogacar wouldn't be doing the Vuelta, but the reality is that last year when he was asked if he would do two GT for another season, he said yes for a few more seasons.

And in an interview from earlier this year, Javier Sola talks about doing the Tour-Vuelta and that Pogacar's next challenge would be to do Giro-Tour-Vuelta in the same year.

Something has changed.
