In short among much more which been pointed out, the competition is so much higher these days because the sport has 100x more people doing it and especially since its never been more specialized than it is now.

It should go without saying that specialization raises the level significantly in each area, dah...which in turn makes competing across different areas incredibly more difficult. Imagine that needs to be explained.

In the interview with italian tv pog said that after the race they were talking with teammates about the numbers he did on the last final climb and said they were crazy. I'm waiting for the estimates, but my guess looking at the time is that he did around 7.3 w/kg for 21:20.

This season is more impressive than last because last year Pogi farmed the Giro against weaker opposition and Vingegaard was less competitive in the Tour than this year. This year he had to beat Van der Poel in cobbled classics, Remco in Ardennes, Vingegaard in the Dauphine and Tour and again Remco in WC/EC and Lombardia.

Recensy bias is real here. Yes, this was the best Classics season ever but the Grand Tours are 10 times bigger and more important than Monuments. Let's not kid ourselves.
Giro - Tour double with 6 stages in each is insane.

Explain this to me. How was Vingegaard less competitive last year when he showed his highest level ever, caught Pogacar and won a stage against him?
Stage 11 was great but it was an exception. This year he didn't win a stage but was able to put up more of a fight, especially in the last week. Last year he got smoked every mountain stage.
