Because racing the Dauphiné is all about "feeling his rivals". If Vingegaard isn't there, it doesn't matter and he can win another one week stage race. He said he wants to win all major one week races.

It should be about if it is better preparation or not. Regardless about who is there, even though strategy-wise that could be reason to race it. Not avoid or dependent on someone else, as what you are suggesting.

He said he was there to prepare, to get some miles for the Tour and then Combloux happened.

August is his weakest month of the year - regardless of him doing the classics or not.

Hard to predict for the rest of his career. Who knows.

It's clear he wanted to make a statement and tell the world his 2024 TdF wasn't a fluke, specially due to Vingegaard's suboptimal preparation.
The Dauphiné is the best prep race for the Tour but with Vingegaard racing the Giro, he can go to Suisse because he said he wants to win all major one week stage races. 2026 will probably be the best year for that due to less racing days.
I also don't think it is a bad idea to stay at home for 2 weeks after LBL before heading to Sierra Nevada. This year, 5 days after LBL, he was already in Sierra Nevada. He didn't even have time to relax after his heavy spring classics schedule.

I think the biggest pieces will have to be laid first. Does Pogi plan to ride the Vuelta or not? If not, who should lead the team in the Vuelta? After the Giro, will Almeida aim for a podium in the Tour or rather go for the Vuelta? Will Del Toro ride one or two GTs, and will he be happy to share leadership with Almeida in the Giro?

He said he heard it from the peloton. That Pogacar will do Giro-Vuelta double. Even if he wants that, doubt UAE will let him.
