McNulty is still one of the top time trialists. Also, if he's in good shape, we know what damage he's capable of doing in the mountains.
It is kinda confusing though. Reports state that Yates might still do Giro-Tour (which is already a proven terrible combo for him). Obviously, if McNulty is in the Tour lineup, then it makes sense that he replaces Yates. If not Yates, then I don't know who he'll replace.

It could be but imo, it's unlikely. Although that would be a nice replacement tbh.
Currently he would be an upgrade on both 2025 version of Yates and Sivakov with similar mountains ability to Sivakov and a better flat and TT engine than both.
It’s possible that Yates has a bounce back year but more likely that he settles into a climbing road captain Majka style role for Almeida in the Giro.

Now that the Vuelta route has been announced, should be an easy win for him if he goes. It probably all depends on how he feels after TDF. If he's completely knackered like this year, he'll skip it. Even though I can see him win the Vuelta easily, the race itself will be very hard. They are going to get cooked in Andalusia, which would have a bad impact on his WC ambitions.
The 2025 one was even easier, a joke of a route.
With the WC in Canada, it's obvious he'll do the Canadian classics.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I just don't think it's as clear cut as you say. At the moment, I think his autumn schedule isn't completely decided and a lot will come down to how he feels after the Tour.

Him possibly skipping the Vuelta due to the Monument-heavy classics season is definitely not as clear cut next year as it was this year. Although yeah, the optimal prep for Worlds next year is the Canadian classics, stay in Canada, then Worlds, the lighter number of race days does indicate he is also considering riding the Vuelta. As you all said, it depends on how he feels after the Tour.
One thing is for sure though IMO. I think the Vuelta will be on his schedule in 2027 with the weird Worlds schedule being held between the Tour and the Vuelta.

Whilst I agree with that assessment I keep feeling that in his mind is the parcours for the Worlds in so many consecutive years being such that he is a fairly heavy favourite 4 years in a row has him circling back to the chance to do something completely unprecedented in the sport that if achieved may stand for well over 50 years.@Cycling111 , posting my reply to you in the Roglic thread here:

It's said that they're are building some hills in UAE, so 2028 might be good for him as well.
It would bring it into range for him but by then on a moderately punchy course a Matthew Brennan or Thibau Nys could have progressed to the extent that they become favourites.

I agree that Vuelta is very important for his legacy, hopefully all the cards play out right soon enough for him to give it a go

For the Vuelta sure it is now indeed, but im sure he and they look at it from this perspective: the Vuelta is there every year, whereas there are allegedly only so many WCs that fit him on paper in theory. So it’s more pragmatic to prioritize them while theyre available. Maximum efficiency.
Vuelta, its simply a matter of, like my baby mama sometimes says to me, you have to be patient and wait just a bit. Hes still improving, so talk of decline isnt even on the cards yet. While it inevitably will be, of course, realistically he also has a gap which requires mental gymnastics to even talk about so imo pragmatic and logical prioritizing so far.
