On kwaremont you’re right, once there is 3 or 5 sec gap there is no way back for vdp but as you said on “some cobbles” i don’t think thats necessarily the case. We’ve already seen last year roubaix that even with a gap vdp is able to close on flat cobbles.
I would say either a sprint or fortune decides roubaix rather than them dropping each other.
And there are no 20% power sections that favor Tadej. He turned the screws on each of those opportunities and everyone scrambled to gain contact in pure futility. The first time everyone was right there and fresh. His power/wt pedalling style was on full display. PR may present opportunities but it's still carnage survival until the smaller groups emerge.

Congratulations for winning Tour of Flanders and more importantly it seems that Mathieu is not a match any more in this type of races.
Such a bitterweat feeling. It's bad because there are only 2 races now where Pogacar has any threat (MSR and PR). It's good because I don't have to read any more posts about MVP being better than Pogacar in classics and specially in RVV.

Sure. But Roubaix is a different race. Flat cobbles are not Flemish bergs.

A couple of riders where able to match in past seasons, then one, now it seems that the way it works is all just max out and are spread across the field each doing their own thing in a rather sterile environment. Meaning that things like road surface and similar don't play such a big role any more.

At PR Mathieu should IMHO still be able to match Pogi unless he is not in good form. If not in good form then likely even at PR we would get a bunch of lone riders. As for reading Mathieu being a better rider in this type of races, well, it was true. Then they matched and now i seems that for majority Pogi is ahead.

It seems like nature isn’t willing to give as all 5 monuments this year with a head wind all the way from the start to finish predicted for sunday. What was a 10% chance is now turned into 0% for pogi🤦‍♂️

Nils Politt aka the Giraffe might be the secret weapon for Pogi 🫢

Dude, there are still 6 days to go. The wind can and will probably change...

Cmon, the same drama about wind was made in MSR and RVV, didn't we learn anything about Pogi chances? :D

I would love a WVA Rouabaix win. For that alone i would not mind weather condition right below having to cancel the race. Storm, wind, rain, ... can only work in WVA favour.

Roubaix different race..
Yeah, like MSR was, right?
And precisely because it's PR, anything can happen. My point is that it's not worth dramatizing about the wind conditions right now, and there are too many unpredictable factors in PR.

I don't see him winning Roubaix this year no matter what the wind does to be honest. I just don't see how/ where he makes the gap on riders like MdvP, Wout and Mads at the moment. Props to him for trying though, should be a fun race!

Yeah, but a rainy PR is epic. As a cycling fan I want rain! I'm wishing a edition like 2021 or 2002.
Me too. Rain puts everyone on the spot. At least technique becomes a factor, if not a winning factor, then at least something that can make a rider loose the race.

MVDP needs to be on his best to have a chance. Pog looks like he has excessive power reserves and over +250K it compounds. The ideal scenario would be WVA, MVDP and Pog entering the velodrome together...

Depends on your perspective. I would love to see a muddied barely recognisable Van Aert come in solo in first place.
Just to reward him for his perseverance.

I kinda agree. Tho if he can be in the selection with those guys enough times he might win solo or by sprint sooner or later. Last year he was alone with MVP, so he was only one freak mechanical issue away from winning.

Unless MVP takes their monument tally duel so seriously he will ride to prevent Pogi from winning moreso than his own best result.
