Taping bottom of the pedals

I wonder if there is some marginal watt gains if you tape the bottom of clipless shimano 105 pedals with some self adhesive wrap/tape ...
1watt maybe? Or more...

Dirt and cleaning. ALL performance STOPS when the pedal doesn't work.

You're going to have to leave a gap so as not to interfere with the cleat. That will be susceptible to getting debris caught in it and would lessen any aero benefits (which considering the area are only likely to be measurable at high speeds (like +40kph)) which are likely to be very small if they even exist. I wouldn't bother.

Triathletes are the biggest aero weenies known to man and they don't bother.

If you're that worried about it switch to the "aero" Speedplay pedals. I seriously doubt there's any real world benefit
