His interviews absolutely crack me up. What a character, in addition to being an excellent bike rider.

Another good day for members of the pursuiters union:
SuperG and Kung still 1-2 in GC, and now Phinney in
the polka dots! :)

Absolutely love the guy since I watched thereabouts2 (with Mortons bros). In addition to that, the fact that he kept faith after his terrible accident. Great to see him that way!

Phinney's a great guy, his relationship with his dad is really touching and you have to respect him for the way he kept going on that brutal 2013 Tirreno - Adriatico stage.
I like him as a rider and he's also well liked in Italy, he speaks fluent Italian and many fans like the fact that an American actually learned their language. Let's hope that his career is now really back on track.

Jørgen Leth had a pretty great misnaming of him today; "Taylor Funny..." (Or maybe he spelled it Phunney in his head, I dunno). Which, I guess, isn't so far from the truth.

Yeah, me too. I hope he goes all polka dot tomorrow.
Here's a link for those who haven't seen the interview.

Great interview! I hope that POC has a polkadot helmet available for sale soon!

He looks really smooth on a bike. Which is usually my main criteria for liking a rider. :D Have never been a Phinney fan really, but I'm warming to him. Hope he'll get back to a competitive level in races that matter to him.

Great style on the bike and a likeable guy.

OK, TP had a Polka POC helmet today so let's get one ready for fans to buy. POC is $$ so it will probably be $300 (US$).

We are talking about a beast... I saw him as a "Spartacus" successor... He really had the potential to do special things... That crash took so much from us, cycling fans...

Best performance from him in ages. Made the group with the favorites, chased after Sagan with Vandenbergh and still hung on for a top 10. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

Cali 2014 the stage where he TT from the peloton was very impressive.

I didn't think we would ever see Phinney finishing top10 in a monument again! I really thought he was done at this level. He did so little in the last 1.5 years that I started to wonder if he would get a WT contract after 2018. Glad to see him doing well again.

Yeah, I rated him as one of the worst riders on the World Tour. Good to see him back. Let's hope it wasn't just a fluke.

I don't think it was a fluke. It's not as if he was only there because of an early break and he even went on the attack fairly late.

Sagan won in a masterful way, Dillier rode out of his mind, but Phinney's performance today gave me the most excitement. Maybe more hope than excitement actually, something that has been lacking when I recall his past few seasons since the accident. That he rides at all after such a horrific injury is inspiring, but we could not help but hope to see a return to the success of previous years, and to hope to see the success develop into great triumph. Today that hope was fortified. This did not seem to be a fluke, he looked very strong. It was not a case of being in the early break and hanging on as others pass, Phinney was sharp today. He was active and in control, working well for Vanmarcke as the only "domestique" to survive late in the race.

I would rate today as level with what we saw from him pre injury. This was not just a nice ride or lucky placing, and he did not collapse after a few efforts.

Is it too early to say that Phinney is back?
