Anyone else catch that Versus in-car interview with Vaughters a few minutes ago?

He said that Thor's bike computer from yesterday clocked him at 112kph/69mph on the descent.

If Cavendish can't make the time and gets kicked out wearing green, I am going to giggle a little bit when nobody sees it :D

Looks like he was around 20 seconds back at the top, so he can catch back up and yo-yo off on the next ascent.

They won't let that happen. They changed the system to give him more chance of winning it. Cavendish is marketing gold. Rojas isn't. Gilbert might be, though - but Cavendish is not going to get thrown out unless he's a looooong way outside, especially if he's wearing a jersey.

But if he is out of time limit im sure he will lose all the points, even if they let him continue

If he's outside the time limit and they let him continue, he will be penalised the same number of points that are available for winning the stage.

As this is a mountain stage, this means he will be penalised 20 points, the same as an intermediate sprint.

Therefore, he would drop a handful of points behind Rojas, and easily take those back on tomorrow's pancake flat waste of a weekend stage.

but Lotto and Movistar needed to up the pace well before now in order to get rid of Cav ...

Gilbert riding at the back, so maybe has tired legs?

I don't know why you'd think that. They sure seemed to go out of their way to make winning stages as difficult as possible for Cavendish.

They needn't bother, since the entire race is set up so that Cav wins the green jersey. Apparently.

Millar, Casar and El Fares now..

Chasers at 35 seconds. Nice move in the downhill. Unfortunately dashes the hope of TGBM :(

20 points would be a big penalty in the context of this competition

I guess you are right. We are stuck with this high maintenance crybaby for many years to come. Oh well.

nah

tomorrow, Paris .... Gilbert or Rojas needs 90odd points on Cav now. Never going to happen.

Mind you - as much as I love Gilbert, winning as many stages as Cav has, and being as consistent - he deserves green.

Gilbert may need good advantage, but for Rojas about 30 may be enough - if he finishes 2nd behind Cav he won't lose much.

WTH the 21 man chase break doing!!!

They are letting 3 riders go, because they want to win a stage but not really.

You make coming 2nd behind Cavendish sound easy. Rojas has never finished better than 3rd on any GT stage his entire career.

He wins races though, kind of whats its about unless I'm missing something.
They've toughened up the finishes but he still wins.
