There is a difference between holding your position in the peloton, and all out attacking. Berto didn't need to put time on Sanchez/Menchov. And he didn't need to leave a decent pace as the rest of the peloton would have adjusted accordingly. This happens all the time in cycling.

I think the biggest defense Contador has for this move is the fact that Saxo gapped Contador et al. after the Stage 3 crash.

I don't like seeing this stuff. No way should you attack the MJ during a mechanical.

Agree. Not a nice way to get the yellow jersey. At least from the feed I saw Contador was pushing the pace quite a few times after Andy got the mechanical.

On the replay. When Andy's chain went Vino was already on his wheel, but Contador took a good 3-5 seconds to catch up with Andy going nowhere. He had opened up a somewhat signigicant gap...

No Schleck was slowing down because of the problem. It took him awhile before he stopped because he had so much momentum. If he had put it in the big ring then he probably would have dropped AC. Look at how he gained time back on Contador despite Contador being at the front attacking.

Menchov and Sanches just followed Contador who was attacking yellow jersey. Schleck had a little gap to Contador, I am not sure that Contador was closing. But what I am sure is that Contador attacked when he saw Schlecks mechanical.

When you see the replay, you will see that he had just shot out of the pack seconds before andy broke. In fact, from his position when he started to cover, I am wondering if Andy attacked when Contador was not on his wheel.

I just watched the coverage again, and Andy attacked when Contador was at the back of the group, vino was back too, vino shot out of the pack, and AC came after him, but if you WATCH the ACTUAL video, Andy attacked when Contador COULDN"T IMMEDIATELY COVER, and turnabout is fair play. Sucks for him that his chain dropped, but that is the way the cookie crumbles.

I have absolutely no problems with Contador pushing on today. He didn't really seem to go full gas, and it looked like he was waiting. On the climb, at least.

This is the day the Saxo hypocrisy comes back to haunt them. It was even a bit of instant karma, as Andy tried to profit from a moment when Contador seemed to be paying no attention at all.

Another STUPID comment by BPC. No, look at the actual video, not your mentally ill twisted view of events, and you will see that when Andy attacked, Vino and Contador were at the back of the bunch, which is why Andy attacked. Sucks for him that he threw a SUCKER PUNCH and took one himself.
