I think he was afraid the lead group wouldn't be allowed to get away if he was in it, but ye it seems like a very odd strategy but I'm sure it was thought out.

Also seems Sanchez is (getting) back so just have to hope it didn't have any long term effects on his body.

Well, given that its not as if the Cervelo train by last count is not getting any closer to the lead group I don't know how effective this plan is turning out to be. Sastre's form being what it is, I doubt he can bridge up to the & on the Meribel.

BTW, good to see Sanchez looking alright.

still wonder what Moreau's strategy is here. He should be up the road.

Wrong team I think! Moreau cant go as Radioshack will push to get him back.I hope he can take the sprint for the points.

Maybe they have made a deal between them? Logical reason why they aren't going for points.

Maybe Moreau will back himself being able to bridge up to the break on one of the climbs. Some crap climbers in the break so he may attack the peloton and bridge across on the first climb hoping to leave Charteau for dead. Maybe pick up some points on that climb and then bag what he needs on the last.

Though, he will want the gap to be less than five minutes.

He's clearly in pain.

A couple of the radioshack riders there have nose patches on. Im yet to meet a single person who, when exercising, breathes through their nose. Pointless?

WOW

my heart skipped a beat there as Samu lay motionless on the ground.

Hopefully, hopefully, he will be ok and this wont take much out of him, at least not after 140 km of riding, and not an evans style injury which he tries to hide in hope.

Ok that sounds plausible.

EDIT: Good to see Sanchez smiling.

Is Charteau up the road...

My guess is that he could not get up the road due to the RadioShack/Caisse team battle. And he thinks he can blow Charteau away on Tourmalet and finish in the top 5 which should give him enough points...I don't know, but the team classification seems to have killed any chance he had to get up front.

It sort of makes sense if he lets the break take the big points and then tries to bridge across, since if he and Charteau duke it out to take first and second that won't help Moreau at all.

I love his quotes. I am going to miss that when he retires from racing. That man deserves a badge of honor for just completing this Tour.

Everyone is in pain. If you can't handle any pain no use being a pro-cyclist. But he could manage a grin and was easily peddaling a small gear, so I imagine he isn't going to abandon because of his fall.

Not abandon, but worried about his ability to protect third. Versus just went to it's 10,000th ad.

He won't abandon, but he will almost certainly lose 3rd and might fall out of the top 5 because of it as it's almost certainly going to negatively influence his performance up the Tourmalet.

the point is, sanchez is likely to be weaker once we hit the mountains after this crash.

Bye bye podium and potential stage victory.

Agreed. Hope it's true that he was just winded and is gonna be fine, he's looking okay now.

@ the poster who suggested Sanchez was struggling on Tuesday, the fact that the stage went straight into the climbing made a big difference. Having the climbs later on means he should do as well as he has been doing, riding with the top guys.

But with the break going out like it is, I think the battle for points is over.

As a sanchez fan, its sad after hearing all this crap about how menchov was going to crash and hand sanchez the podium
