Actually the Hog has always criticized Contador for attacking and being impetuous. If he had listened to the Hog, he may not have won the Tour last year.
True... I'm not saying he's as cautious as the Hog wanted. I'm just saying the Hog has tempered his agression. Contador has said himself that before working with Bruyneel, he'd always attack and often kill himself and end up losing time because of it... and he learned to only attack when needed with Bruyneel.
Contador rode conservative today... because attacking gained him very little. He's a complete rider... capable of attacking when the situation calls for it, but not so wound up that he attacks himself into oblivion.
Think about last year... he attacked what... three times the entire race? Arcalis, Verbier, and the one attack that dropped Kloden on Grand Bornand. All his other accelerations were simply to keep pace with others attacking him.
