It is not restricted to South Australia, it is the Tour DOWN UNDER! Down Under is not just South Australia. That is like the swiss saying we are going to not do the tour de suisse next year but have the tour de romandie as our national race even though it only encompasses one part of switzerland.

There has been talk from the Victorian State Government that the TDU could replace the Grand Prix. TDU seems a lot more economically viable and I have a strong dislike for motor sport so that go with me quite well. You don't have to go too far out of melbourne to get some decent terrain. The Dandenong ranges have got some nice climbing without being too tough.

Talk about taking things way too literally.

There is no state V state thing going on here because there is no competition.

oh ffs... it's called the Tour Down Under, which is like the "Australian" Grand Prix which is only held in melbourne...
Ever noticed the difference being that "Down Under" is a nickname for anything in our counrty yet "Australia" is a bit more specific, an d you have the gall to call others on hypocracy

I think it's hilarious that a South Australian race has promoted itself well and put itself on a world stage, while the "superior" Vics have done sweet fa with their own race and now rubbish SA simply through their jealousy...

And well done for turning a discussion on the alteration of a stage in a race into a grand display of showing why non-Victorians think Victorians are obnoxious up-themselves tosspots. Top job!

Now that is way way way off target and too harsh.

We want to develop our race but Mr President of Oceania (3 countries) Mike Turter, stopped us from doing so when we wanted it moved to February.

The only reason why our race can't develop is Turtur is stopping it from developing. Wonder why? He doesn't want any race getting in the way of the Tour Down Under because he's a selfish, money grabber human being.

F1 is motor sport and is on a race track. Totally different. The original point I was making if you read my other posts was that people whinge about the nationals not being moved but don't whinge about the TDU being moved.

If people don't want to discuss what I have posted then they shouldn't post about it. Everyone on the forum has a brain as they can choose to post about what they like and they can choose what they want to ignore in a thread. If you truly don't like my posts then I invite you to put me on ignore. btw, Don't just point the finger at me.

Bring out the convict fan boy flame wars.

Gotta be honest I had to stop reading about half way down page 2 but I think the summary of it all is that the South Australian government foots a lot of the cost (including sponsorship) and that the Vic Government wasn't wanting to put any money into it either. That and as Sasquatch says, Mike Turter.

i think the tour down under is a boring race. boring stages, boring racing and the rest. even before it was protour, (least in the few years preceding) the opening break would stay away and that was it.

I love it all the same (cos i'm an adelaide boy). it is what it is and it is going to stay that way. the teams like it because the weather is good (well hot rather than cold), they don't have any transfers and its not to demanding for early season. it can't be anything other than that otherwise no one would want to come. like it or not pro cycling is a euro-centric sport, and it will stay that way (america is reasonable, much closer than aus and asia)

and vic shouldn't want it. the herald sun tour is much more interesting (even without the "lance" factor) :p

ohh, and they stole our GP :p

I've calmed down now but that moronic post by Archibald really annoyed me.

Victorian Government were interested in it as it was possibly going to become a substitute for the Australian Grand Prix. I am all for the Grand prix being swapped around between states who want it in Australia as it should truly be more available to more Australians. For a weekend of racing, the event costs a lot to run. Tour Down Under in many respects is more economically viable. I don't see why the Victorian Government would do the same.

Poor deluded fellow, as if Melbourne is better. The TDU was an SA initative so it is a SA race. If you want one like it create your own. Too bad VIC haven't had the brains to do so already.

as for Nationals vs TDU being moved, why should the TDU be moved? It's a race that's specific to SA, not Australia. The Nationals should always be moved and shared about nationally, but the TDU isn't a National championship.

as for the F1 and TDU being different, they're two races on their respective courses. Despite that, the analogy of the naming is still the same. One goes by a nickname, the other claims nationality by calling itself "Australian", and that is what your comment above was about.

Same deal as usual really, you go off like a firecracker at the slighest mention that you are wrong, or that victoria and melbourne aren't all you think it is. Then get all high n mighty and petulant in your defense
Start thinking rationally and stop firing off half cocked, because you're adding so much creadance to that debating thread in the cafe. (which, by the way, is where you should be blathering on about how wonderful you think melbourne and victoria are)

Sun Tour might like to add a pavé stage using Melbourne's famed cobbled laneways. Like today's Melburn Roobaix event!
