Climbing to almost 2700 meters with actual 'climbers' and beating all but one is not just a red flag, it's a red flag with fireworks and very loud music, with the occasional punch in the face.

Beautifully expressed!

Guess the Tour could be an old school one - like late '90s-early '00s old school...

Time for a Geraint Thomas thread..............
Make one.

But yeah, Geraint's perfomance today is the most ridiculous transformation I've seen since Horner 2013. Maybe Froome discovered the Holy Grail in late 2011 and passed it on to the rest of his team members. This makes me think organized doping culture still exist.

Sky is going too far with G. Thomas. Don't like it at all. It is too obvious.
I feel the same way. Not normal.

I feel this every time one of them emerges out of nowhere. i wasn't that surprised, tbh. Just another routine 'miracle' of marginal gains. Nothing to see.

Out of nowhere????

Well Thomas was a paid up member of the Autobus not so long ago. If Quintana f/e was bulking up for the cobbled classics and finishing top 10, then losing weight and finishing top 10 on MTF would you buy it?

What is his previous best on a HC climb?

That's right. A former pursuit racer is now climbing with the best on a HC climb. Cycling has become more fake than pro-wrestling.

Good question. I can't think myself, he did well with Porte earlier this spring but nothing as good as this from memory. It's a scary train 5 Sky in the last top 10 on climbs?!
The others will have serious work to do.

Re: Sky

They've gone too far this time. Outclimbing superstar climbers like Fuglsang, Jan Hirt, the really lightweight Tom Dumoulin, Reichenbach, Ten Dam, Morabito, and a flying Rafal Majka is just too much.

You guys are awesome.

Like I wrote on the ToS stage 5 thread- I've always considered "G" a good climber, but what bothers me is the so called "SKY trade mark for shedding massive weight while increasing PTWR- in matter of MONTHS"...... Again I do actually like G a lot, but today was kind of strange to see him climbing that well among pure climbers..... ....... "Not Normal"
I like G too, and did not see today's stage but I had to do a double take when I saw the results sheet a little while ago. I agree, this is not normal at all.

I guess G went there.... :(

Maybe you should try watching before commenting.

He finished 5th, not 2nd. He was beaten by a neo-pro.

Really? I mean really?

And by the by, climbing isn't some mystical god-given talent.

I have always wondered why the other teams aren't protesting against Team Sky for being so dominant.

It's clear that they are always two steps ahead of the rest in their knowledge about how to transform their riders into machines.

He finished 5th and the neo pro was a Colombian riding for 'clean' team Astana, who also won Tour L'Avenir inc Mountains classification, you know your average neo pro ;)

I guess they are and Cookson just waves a union jack back at them. Probably want Hein used to do, wave a stars&stripes, when Armstrong was strolling his TdFs.

It's quite funny laughing at some of the ignorant comments on here about Thomas (from both sides of the argument).

Yeah it's crazy, cos everyone should know Brits don't dope (we even have a thread about it) and Sky are the cleanest team in the history of cycling

One thing is sure, they are laughing all the way to the podium and bank while fans like kenk09 keep defending them. Even their most absurd performances. Being a contender in both a Zoncolan-like stage and Paris-Roubaix is.. I can't even find words to describe it. That's like if Kittel was an contender for the Vuelta. Or even worse, like in the good old Merckx days.

"Geraint Thomas is future Tour de France winner, says Shane Sutton"

"It is probably three years in the making because Froomey is a very good bike rider and he is not going to go away for a while."
But Sutton added of Thomas: "He can time trial, he can descend, he can climb, he can sprint in small groups.
"He has the power and he has the engine to have everything that's needed to go out and win a Grand Tour."
