I'm glad Contador 2009 is now the benchmark of what is achievable clean.

it's not. Some people here think Porte's performance today was much greater than Contador's 2009 performance. Some people think Contador and Riis will be trembling with fear about Porte. They seem to think a sub 6-watt attack with 1km to go is more awesome than a 7km solo attack averaging almost 6.2 watts.
Contador is ridiculous. Porte by comparison is slow.

When was the last time you saw 2009 Contador? You appear to be an expert on power outputs so you should be able to find many post-2009 equivalents.

Porte was having fun beating the times of proven dopers at P-N's queen stage. He was smiling when crossing the line.

Doper Menchov beaten. Doper Schleck Beaten. Doper Scarponi beaten.

I'm with you. I want Sky to go full ***. I want them to dope so hard they make Gewiss look clean.

That is the only way to clean out this scourge.... the only way.

Oh! We've gotten to the Gewiss and Mapei level of idiocy! Oh well then carry on. If that is the case the Most Ridiculous Doped Performace You've Seen (or whatever it is called) thread will be taking a lot of hits.:D

Sounds like 13 might just be a lucky number after all! The Gewiss and Mapei solo trains at Fleche and Roubaix are some of the best things I have ever seen. Especially at Fleche Wallone. Three big men dropping an entire peloton with a lap to go. Or riding away on the cobbles from everyone! Gotta love Fuentes and Ferrari's early work!:p

nothing that would beat Contador 2009 Verbier. Contador 2009 on de Lure VAM was 1659. Porte's was about 1520. 1520 doesn't get you Strava KOMs where I ride...certainly not the 'most incredible performance ever' the anti-Sky group here thinks.

Maybe your locals should land a pro contract and win the P-N queen stage then?

You can't compare Porte 2013 to Contador 2013 via Contador 2009. Contador 2007-(2008)-2009 =/= Contador 2010 or Contador 2011-2012. Of course 2013 could be a return of the old given the circumstances but we need to wait twelve hours for a better indication of that.

My point re Porte is that his climb was not extraordinary the way people here are claiming it is obvious he must be doping. My point about 1520 is that it's an early season figure - wouldn't win a race later in the season (the local KOMs are all pros). Agreed, we do not know what the 2013 Contador will be, but we've already seen some flashes.

I don't think it is just the one local area. There are Strava Pros everywhere..:)

The Pros and the UCI could learn something about dodgy practices from some of the people attempting to win Strava.

What was Hesjedal's VAM on Cervinia?

But this is the guy who under Sir Bjarne Riis was finishing 4 minutes down on mountain stages on a great day, and 20 minutes down on a bad day.

Porte was strongly unhappy with his salary and status in SaxoBank in 2011. He intended to ride 1 GT for himself while he was made to do both for the other guy. In 2010, he showed himself in the Giro in an outstanding way, considering this was his debut GT.

Hitch has totally debunked this amazing GT Giro ride. Porte was on the escapees who got a big advantage which he then lost huge time in the next 3 stages.

Stop repeating Porte has shown GT potential before Sky. He hasn't.

Insiders such as Brailsford must have known ever since the (late) 2000s that Australia and Canada offer a rich pool of racers willing to use, or already using, PEDs, in an attempt to catch up with the European cycling elite. UCI have supported this common-wealth trend, I reckon, for instance by talking to local federations ensuring that there will be no positives.

Similar to the way Wiggins future greatness is often posited on his winning a mountain stage in tour de l'avenir - JV has argued this with me - had to point out that he got in a lucky break & eventually won a 2 up sprint.

Riders who could only achieve by catching a lucky break now dominate a doped peloton whilst being 'clean' - what a farce sky are

Naturally my post implies this circumstance. Porte was among 10-12 climbers of that Giro objectively. Was that a little?

So Porte won the young rider classifcation in the Giro without showing GT potential. Whatever.

he won it without showing any climbing potential. And what he won yesterday was a mtf.

The "young" rider competition is hardly a great indicator.

Quite sufficient indicator to win Paris-Nice.

What is a climbing potential in your view? top-5, top-10?

Yet where is our man Vlad...

The young rider classification is subject to all sorts of distortions, what is relevant is his actual climbing/time trialing performance not some arbitrary "classification".

Finishing in the top-10 in any mountain stage in any race before he came to Sky would have been at least something.
