They make sure he's not idle in July watching the race on TV eating popcorn and get used to riding it with an 8-man team one year before the new rule on team size is applied. Two birds, one stone.

Very surprising that Fernandez AND Moreno didn't make the cut, I had expected at least one of them to make it - on the other hand, they can only support Valv and Quintana in the mountains and I doubt they really will have the level to be gamechangers. Amador, Castroviejo and Herrada can do so much more for you. Betancur really is the only true climbing domestique.

Happy that Sutterlin made the team, really well deserved. Who knows what he can do in Düsseldorf.. and then you obviously have Benna and Erviti, both really reliable.

Two, Amador and Bennati. The Herrada is Jesus who at this point is a much better rider than Jose

I always get that confused. I thought I remembered Castro being up there on the Blockhaus as well, but it was the Terminillo in TA

Looks like they've taken the same approach as BMC. Make sure you have enough men to both defend and attack and make splits on the flat/rolling stages. All 11 of them! Seems like a few teams believe that is where the race will be won and lost this year, as much as in the mountains.

Jose is the one who looks much better on a bike.

Obviously they won't make some mountain trains. It's a team really strong in rolling terrain, they could go in breakaways and later be useful. Seems like we're going to get some attacking from Nairo and Don Ale

Yea it does seem a bit underwhelming. Even though I don't really think they could have made a better roster necessarily.

If Amador & Betancur perform then it's fine but this is the first ever time Amadors done 2 GT's in a row and Betancur is on & off. They're missing an J.Izagirre/Inxuasti rider they had in the past.

The flat doms are ok but they will have to rely more on positioning (which Bennati can do well) more than raw power because if they miss a split (in crosswinds) I don't think Erviti/Sutterlin/Bennati are going to be pulling back a break that has Sky or BMC in.

Valverde is the big thing they have going for them though.

The guy is fit. Tour de Suisse did him well, he was performing better by the day and has been training with Valv recently, his idol! I have no doubt Betancur gonna be good and I have no problem selecting him over Moreno, who did well recently, (but Route du Sud..) or Fernandez who hasn't done much of notice honestly.

Castroviejo is one of the best arllround domestiques in the world and is w/kg is quite good being a time trialist and all, he can climb very well on his day. I dont expect much out of Amador in the mountains. Jesus Herrada is a good allrounder and can climb decently, but he really isn't your typical domestique. He is at his best as smaller stage races, gunning for victories and even GC by being a good time trialist and pretty explosive (remember his win i Dauphine).

They need a fully fit Malori back honestly. The more I think about it I sense some real danger if there's crosswind stages.

A logical selection. The only surprise for me is the selection of Betancur (is he going to double?). He may be the only one can support Quintana/Valverde in the high mountains, but it's not up to Movistar to make the race with teams like Sky and perhaps BMC. They can also send guys as Castroviejo (who climbs very well this year for his standard) and Amador in the breaks. I have my doubts on Jesus Herrada as i think he will be too limited in the mountains.

Bennati is really 1/1, just with more experience. I see no problem there.
Bennati is waaay better, Malori has never been great in the crosswinds and isn't the best bike handler.

I think they actually selected a team for that purpose if you ask me.

They gave up some mountain horsepower, unless Amador and Betancur are at his best.
