Teams & Riders Team Movistar-thread

Landa was in a position to win at the end and GT cracked. I’d say they did very well. You could tell Nairo wasn’t well because he was never at the front with his teammates. Had Alaphilippe cracked, as he would have in years past, Movistar’s day would have looked even better.
Another thing they accomplished today: it’s now obvious that Thomas and Bernal will be on their own from now on. Even Poels seemed to struggle today and he’s been taking it easy the first half.

Movistar rode incredibly well today (haven't seen Amador and Soler perform this well for a while in the mountains, they have both seemed to go the rouleur route), but unfortunately Quintana is a shadow of his former self and Landa lacked the extra spark. They did what we always wanted them to do, but their captains let them down. *** happens, but dont blame tactics.

Today was a simple w/kg test, tomorrow is a stage much more suited to attacks, tactics and use of a strong team. They have 3 cards to play and they have to do something even though they are out of it for the overall win.

Unzue went all out for the big one, they are now leading the team classification by 11 min. :D

Unzue went out for the bigger one, he never criticized his star riders, nor barely criticized his riders at all, yet he made exception today, that means Nairo is done with his team.

That's a very interesting point. You're right I can't remember him ever criticizing one of his star riders before.

Bizarre ride by Movistar but it worked well for the French...........

It was good tactics if they had someone who could finish it off, but Quintana never told anyone he couldn't do what they were expecting from him. Landa did his best to salvage something. Valverde did the best he could which on this climb was actually good for him. as it's not a good climb for him to begin with.

Bad legs for years, no communication. Huge liability at this point. Get em out

What did he say?

He said that Nairo should've told them that he isn't feeling good, and that they would not work like they did in that case. Valverde said that also. Maybe he could redeem himself by working for his two jefes in the coming days.

Frankly baffling they managed to not bottle the Giro.
Not really, Quintana wasn't there.

I wonder to what extent yesterday's lack of communication and subsequent fiasco was a direct result of Movistar's insistence to constantly field their three leaders together even though they were hardly compatible and at least some of them clearly didn't like each other very much.

Remember Valverde wasn't supposed to be racing the Tour in the first place and is only here due to an injury in the Ardennes. Also he wasn't racing as a race leader until after the Tourmalet.

Team have announced that they have resigned the following riders
Amador, Carretero, Pedrero. Arcas, Mas,Olivera and Rojas.
Pleased to see that some of the supporting talent have been resigned at least
