Ah, I see. You wrote "Equipier" next to Pereiro and "GC" next to Sánchez, so I assumed. my apologies :)

I will be working on figuring the style of riders out the next couple of days. Feel free to chip in by using the legend. I usually refer to 'de wielersite' to identify/estimate the lesser known riders, in combination with what I assume to be the strategy of the team :D

I think it's interesting that Columbia left Sioutsou (I have seen at least 7 different spellings of his name, so sorry if this is not the right one) and Lövkvist home! I felt like they would have been guys that could have helped my man Kim Kirchen in the mountains. On the other hand, they didn't really help last year at all. Interesting to see how well Tony Martin will do!
Oh and I'll miss Markus Burghardt, one of the very few riders that you can actually recognize.

I think the make up of the Columbia team shows that they do not have a whole lot of faith in any of their potential GC riders (Kirchen, Rogers, Martin).

No Adam Hansen either. I don't think they care about winning overall GC's, just stages. Anyway it is good to see two cyclists each from Japan and New Zealand take part.

They haven't issued bib numbers yet. The list is sorted first alphabetically by team name and then alphabetically by team member.

Posted just in time to head off all the "Why does Lance and not AC have the first Astana bib#?" posts and then the whole thread devoted to it.

Maybe Simon Gerrans didnt want to go to the Tour once he realised he would have to wear that ridiculous white Cervelo gear. Only a thought.

I count 31 different nationalities(maybe wrong) at the Tour this year, that must be a record or at least close to it. Last Finn to race the Tour anyone? Was it Joona Laukka in the 90s.

The exclusion of Barloworld didn't seem to see much grumbling here.

Am I the only one disappointed by not seeing Soler race?

Were they really not good enough this year?

Maybe we found something to agree on Jack. I am disapointed but there was no hope for them to return. They had a doping case last year and Soler DNF in the tour and Giro last year. So there was no true reason for the Tour to invite this Continental team again. If Soler wants to come back to the Tour He probably needs to change teams for next year.

Perhas Skil or Vacansoleil are good teams (especially since VAC just got rid of Lhottelier) :D

Joona Laukka 1997, 1998.
Kjell Carlström 2005, 2006, 2007.

Soler seems an odd duck type I like to root for as underdog.

I don't think the sponsorship is commited beyond this year in the wake of what happened last year. No tour has to hurt.

You know, I have not heard anything from him about changing teams. There was rumor of a potential Continental team for next year that was shooting for a pro-tour license in 2 years time in Colombia that was going to group most of these expatriated riders like Soler, Ardila, Uran and others but I never heard from them again. It even had the same name ("Cafe de Colombia") as the team from the 80's in which Luis Herrera and Fabio Parra raced. We'll see and wait to what happens.

Sponsor money and wages... (although the UCI released a STATEMENT saying that budgets in the cycling business have gone up by a lot, increasing cyclist's wages) I think Uran and Ardila, also Soler, are rather well paid cyclists. Can they afford them from the start, and build a team around them, have all the facilities that top riders require and get the license that enabes them to compete at the highest level (which is partly dependent on the quality of riders they have)

"Colombia es Pasion - Cafe de Colombia" is partly owned by the Government. Something similar to Astana. Although the industry of the Country is not the strongest one would think that at least the Government would have the money to form the team. I don't think the people of Colombia would mind since cycling is one of their passions (Soccer being the first one) and they want to come back to the glory days of the 80's.
That is just what I read in the newspaper few months ago. I am really not sure if it will ever come true.
Thanks.
