Team Sky Squads for the Grand Tours

Oops.

They seriously ****ed up the Giro/Tour selection.

Firstly, Lopez and Kiryienka should have gone to the Giro. Their history suggests they perform best in the spring and at the Giro. They've never been good at the Tour on the couple of occasions they've ridden it. One of the Colombians should have been saved for the Tour. All of the guys who rode the Giro are struggling badly at the Tour so I don't happen to think either Uran or Henao would be performing well either if they'd done Giro-Tour. The mistake was picking both of them for the Giro. They should also have probably kept Siustou and Knees fresh for the Tour too. Completely loading that Giro team for Wiggins was ridiculous considering he skipped the pre-Giro altitude camp.

So Giro squad could have been: Wiggins, Uran, Lopez, Kiryienka, Cataldo, Zandio, Pate, Puccio + 1 other. Which would have still been very strong and far stronger than the knight deserved.

Leaving Tour squad: Froome, Porte, Henao, Kennaugh, Thomas, Siutsou, Knees, EBH, Stannard

There's also a lack of experience of course. The clearout following their new zero tolerance approach has come back to bite them. Yates, Rogers etc.

I really can't see any reason why Lopez or Siutsou will be better in the Alps. Kiryienka is gone. Thomas has a fractured pelvis. Stannard isn't a climber. Neither is EBH.

So Froome will be left with just Kennaugh and Porte in the mountains. At best, considering Porte's implosion on stage 9. Not to forget that Kennaugh crashed hard and is racing his first Tour de France at the age of 23.

Good luck against the Spanish Armada, Chris!

Who is riding with Wiggins in Colorado? Still undecided?

Probably Dombro and Boswell.

(Wiggins should be riding support for them though. :D)

I always wondered why this so called alien team Sky is so bad in this TDF. Thanks for clarification.

Party animal Wiggins got priority on picks for Giro :D This will teach them how winning is done, for 2014 ofc.

Sky's Vuelta squad might take some beating..

Henao
Froome ( rumoured to do Vuelta in support of Henao)
Uran
Kiryenka ( if he gets back into early season form = monster )
Cataldo
Knees
Zandio
Pate
Eisel
Swift

That's my quick guess.

Think pate's going to the usa pro challenge and swift has said he's not in line to do any gt's this yr. kiri will probably go now that he has time to recover but whether he can be expected to peak again is another story. Then yeah froome may go especially when looking at how their rest of their squad have done nothing really in races like austria and suisse.

I doubt whether Froome will go in a supporting role after (likely) winning the tour and I'd prefer it if he didn’t, likewise Porte shouldn't be included in the squad.

Uran will have his future arranged by then but will hopefully be fully committed to helping Henao or perhaps even stepping up into the leadership role himself.

It could be a strong team with a good chance and I'll certainly be backing the Colombians for the overall.
