"I laughed big time today. TJ rode like a milquetoast since the Pyrenees and still lost & failed. I can't deny some gratification. ^^" -Staubsauger

Hey mods, I thought that posts wishing people ill will were against the rules.

I don't hope actual riders crash, but I do root for it to happen in PCM. Does it make me a bad person that I wish ill on a collection of 1s and 0s? :p

Yeah PCM is fine, when a rival of mine crashes on there I order all my team to drill it on the front and take minutes! :D However id never support anyone doing that in the real world.

In my opinion it was hard not to feel sorry for Tejay who was obviously extremely upset and had ridden a very nice Tour up to that point.

Source: LRP climbs better, time trials better, stage races better, wins more, and has that charming Australian accent. Whatever TJ may say in public, he is seething that BMC have hired a better, older and more Australian version of himself actually capable of winning stage races.

Good point Sam, hopefully that's not the case.

TJ had better do something in the Vuelta. He bombed out of this years Tour. And BMC management was not happy. See there press release. They recruited TJ and have given him an environment to succeed in. They have been patient. And he has been paid well. He dropped a giant turd on them in Le Tour. That is not way to pay back the Team.

Porte will WIN RACES. And he will do it early in the season. And Podium in some others. I think he will rally that team behind him. By WINNING!

Pressure is now on TJ. Put up or your done. I'm an American. TJ can win all the US pro challenges or Tour of California or Tour of Utah. Great, Nice!........BIG DEAL. Go win Paris-NIce, Tirreno, Pais Basque.

Getting sick isn't "bombing out" or "dropping a turd". What press release? Link? They paid him to win the US races and he did. They paid him to ride well in the the TdF and he got two 5th, and a white jersey. Barring sickness he might well have been on the box this year. Tejay WILL WIN RACES.

This. I'd be shocked if he doesn't win at least 1 GT over the course of his career

If he and/or his team focus on the Tour and only think in the Vuelta as a backup solution when he cannot get a decent result in the Tour he will get a GT palmares comparable to that of JVDB.

The day he abandoned they put out a statement. They were surprised he abandoned. And many other riders were sick during the Le Tour and finished. EX, Froome, Quintana, Contador.
I would hate to break the news to you. But winning the US Pro Challenge. Is not even in the same zip code as Tirreno, Paris-Nice, Pais Basque.

I'm not saying he cannot win a GT in the future. My point is his time is now. And his window with BMC is closing.

And they sure as heck. Did not pay or tell Porte he will Dom for TJ!

I think Porte and TJVG are at similar levels as far as winning a GT goes. Each has a lot to prove. As for Talansky who some people were talking about as something special, he seems to be going backwards. He seems to be another Rolland. He could, he would, he should. We are still waiting. Both are obviously trying to win a GT by getting in a break and that's the only way either Rolland or Talansky seems to be able to break into the top 10. Maybe both have them have been watching the 2006 Tour too often. But the reality is they can't ride with the best in the mountains consistently so their GT hopes are non existent. Porte and TJVG have some hope of making the podium in a GT if everything goes right for them which did not happen this year.

How many Tours has LRP finished top 5 in? Granted Tejay still needs to prove he is podium material but he has totally outperformed LRP so far in GTs. Plus he is 4 years younger.

And yet Porte is obviously much more likely to podium or even a GT because he showed his top level might actually be enough for that. Sky *** up his Giro, crashing, and having a bad say as a domestique don't mean that much when compared to his ability to dominate one week stage races, climb at a very high level and time trial at a very high level. The last three things are much more important indicators of whether you can podium a GT than just looking at the placings, ignoring all circumstances.

If TJ can show he is stronger than Porte next year at the Tour, no problem. Better make sure his climbing is top notch at the first MTF though or LRP is going to rip him a new one.

BMC sends Tejay to the US races to win. It doesn't matter what zip code the race is in, if your team sends you there, its the most important race to you at that time.

Link to the press release? Tejay said that he was shocked. JO said that he was disappointed in losing their GC guy (that's not the same as being disappointing in Tejay). JO also said: "I feel bad for Tejay, I feel bad for the team. We’ve raced hard up to this point. We start over again tomorrow, four big days left in the Tour and we still have goals to win a stage.” Testa said: "He has been fighting a respiratory infection since stage 13 and was able to manage it for a few days. We were hoping with the rest day he would have gone over the edge but I think today it was very hard from the start and the fatigue from the previous days cost him the race. I didn’t see this coming, I was hoping he was over the worse part. This morning he was feeling pretty good, not 100 per cent but upwards from the days before."

46 riders were listed with "feverish" symptoms on the second rest day according to one report. That doesn't mean that all 46 had the exact same reaction or were at the exact same pathogen stage. For example, it sounds like AC's worst day was two days after the last stage. Tejay's worst day might have been the rest day. Can you imagine climbing with the best in the word the day after being in bed with a fever and respiratory issues? Maybe he could have limped in with the other sick riders and sprinters but is that any better for him or the team? Do you know if he made the decision (100%) or if team management helped make the decision?

What? You can't see him winning a relatively TT heavy Giro with a field like the 2012 Giro?

I don't think he will win a GT as well. His TT really isn't that powerful, it's good, but not dominant.
Winning a GT is something else then finishing 5th. He should try winning a Vuelta or Giro though.

I can see him winning the Giro or Vuelta in a year with a weak field and longer TT, as well as some luck on his side. The Tour, no. Unfortunately, if he keeps getting sent to peak for the Tour then his reputation is just going to get sour as the years go by, sort of like Evans pre-Worlds win, except that Evans was a better rider in all aspects. He really needs to diversify and just realize the Tour isn't something to target.
