That is our UCI, screwing traditional events up again

It seems that the UCI's scheduling and stupid need to have another event in the year around October has resulted in a re-scheduling and shortening of Australia's oldest stage race, the Herald Sun Tour.

This has really angered me because it is going to be on at the start of the year, it will replace the Bay Crits which were also quite good and the race has been shortened. This change will not attract a good quality local field along with the good quality international field that the race attracted last year. These changes have been forced upon the organisers because of the *******isation and globalisation of Cycling.

Why do the UCI think it is ok to expand the sport into areas of the globe which do not care for the sport and neglect areas of the world where the Sport is popular?

Globalizing cycling is about racing in front of minuscule or non existent crowds for cash in super rich countries. UCI clearly ****ing up again.

Don't forget it's also about pushing the races the UCI organize themselves to the fore, other organizers be damned. Huge conflict of interest there: they set up races and also decide how important each race is and, ultimately, when it's run.

Yes, there is that for sure. But some superb South American races will never be WT status because they cant come up with the big cash. Instead we get contrived week long races in East Asia/Middle East.

Isn't the Australian National Championships in that date range, janraaskalt?
You could be right. I was more thinking the larger picture: create an international Australian/Oceanian season in January/Februari, with TDU, Herald Sun Tour, etcetera. The biggest problem for the WT teams is travelling to Australia. Once they are there for the TDU they probably want to ride some more races.

Oh, by the way, the Herald Sun Tour is being run as a National event, and not a UCI calendar event. You can blame the UCI for many things, but not this one.

As I said and the organisers stated, the UCI's change of calendar with Beijing Hangzhou caused this change.

Organiser of the TDU may not want the competition to his event.

The dream is TV contract revenue. Must...be...global...tv...audiences...all...year. Then all the ex dopers who now run teams and the sport will be showered with gold.

There is no competition. All WT teams have to participate in the TDU. The only wild card is a national Australian team. Besides, who cares what the TDU wants*? If someone else wants to run a UCI race abiding the UCI rules, they should be able to do so.

*Of course, it would be better if the organisers cooperate.

The [JHST] race organisers had decided to move the race to February and Cycling Australia agreed but the UCI blocked this, causing frustration for USM Events, the race organiser and a subsidiary of WTC, the business behind the Ironman triathlons. The Herald Sun Tour stuck to its slot in October in agreement with the UCI… only to find the UCI suddenly announcing its was going to run its own race at the same time, forcing the Australian race to move. USM and its parent company WTC were not happy.
