Happy Bretagne got a wild card for R Feillu, but I'd have preferred MTN.

I'm of the mind that points wise it's probably better for MTN to ride smaller races where they have a bigger shot at placing well and winning rather than having them race GTs where they might not have the same opportunities to win or place well overall.

From a cycling perspective I would agree that having MTN in the biggest races would be good for the sport.

So Ewan isn't doing the Herald Sun Tour. I feel like I've dodged a bullet after overlooking his early-season scoring potential (although Goss is probably guaranteed a few more points now).

Which means Calvin Watson is! Watson for the win! Go! Go! :D

12 for Wackermann, 7 for Villela and 5 for Feillu :p

I don't think the scores will be altered in any grand fashion this week, because the riders who won the racers wern't very popular picks, I guess.

Next week might be more intresting:

Etoile de Bessèges:
COPPEL Jerome
TAARAMAE Rein
GALLOPIN Tony
MONFORT Maxime
FEILLU Romain

Dubai Tour:
LUTSENKO Alexey
JUNGELS Bob

Herald Sun Tour:
GOSS Matthew Harley
DENNIS Rohan
MORTON Lachlan

Hoogerland's 5 points are the only ones for me this weekend.

Next week I'll field:

Etoile de Bessèges
COPPEL Jerome
GALLOPIN Tony
MONFORT Maxime

There might be points, there might be nothing.

Dubai Tour
ZABEL Rick
JUNGELS Bob

Promo event...

Herald Sun Tour
DOCKER Mitchell
GOSS Matthew Harley

Goss HAS to score at least some points here... hopefully...

Degenkolb picked up his first 36 points to kick off his season (only one less point than what I picked up last week with TDU and San Luis). Though the field wasn't exactly stellar, it's still promising because he usually has very low key starts to the season. Plus with virtually no races this week, it might be enough to be one of the week highest scorers.

How many points do we get for Styby winning the CX rainbow jersey? Common admins, we deserve at least 200 extra special points for this awesome win! :D

Well, sadly the game is based off cqranking, not cxranking, so no styby points. But yes, awesome style points aplenty!

As for me, no points from my meagre representation at this weekend's two races, but Formolo sure looked pretty decent on the break... it's this kind of aggressive riding I'm hoping will pay off with a podium or two as the season goes on.

Before the season (and before I offered to run the game), some of us had talked about rotating the updates, and we're sticking to that schedule. It's been fun doing the first 3, but mc is going to take over for the next few, and then some volunteer guests. So I'm gonna morph back into game participant mode for awhile.

Update #4: Kazistuta states his case, as Lamme Frans leaps forward

If skidmark has posted the updates covering the 'prologue' to the season, I am taking on these next two transitional/transfer stages. I'll be followed by Geraint Too Fast as he carries us through into March, then search takes over until the Ronde.

Hugo Koblet will post the updates for Pais Vasco, P-R, the Ardennes and Romandie. 2011 champion insgve will be at the helm for the Giro and Scandinavian races in May and TeoSheva in June for the Dauphine and Suisse (from where he hopes to be able to report from the roadside).

EvanIsTheBest hopes to be available for the Tour. Geraint comes back and this time gets some WT action in a three week stint before the Vuelta. The Spanish GT will be covered by shalgo, with The Hitch stepping in for the World Champs and Giro di Lombardia. The final updates will be done by Hugo, skidmark and perhaps myself with Hugo to crown the 2014 Champion.

As may have been anticipated not many points scored this week and indeed no rider selected more the 7 times in the game scored over 10 points this week. Kazisuta makes a move into the top 10 with a combined 53 points from Finetto (48) and R. Feillu (5). ironsscally also with Finetto, this time paired with 5 points from Bongiorno and 6 from Polanc to be this week's top scorer and in doing so moves off the bottom of the table.

This Week's Top Scorers

1. ironsscally -59
2. Kazistuta - 53
3. LaFlorecita - 52
4. EvansIsTheBest - 48
4. ray200 - 48

36 points from Degenkolb's first outing is enough to lift Lamme_Frans up 20 places, while the first race of the Italian calendar sees the all italian selection of Zam_Olyas jump 18 spots.

This Week's High Movers

1. Lamme_Frans (+20)
2. Zam_Olyas (+18)
3. ray200 (+17)
4. bicing (+14)
5. Açordas_Team (+10)
5. LightBing (+10)
5. ingsve (+10)

Only movement in the top 10 is Kazistuta coming in, with 18-Valve. (pithy) making way

Top ten overall:

1. (-) wizard_of_oz 1522
2. (-) riaroadtrip 1081
3. (-) just some guy 952
4. (-) Geraint Too Fast 874
5. (-) mutschi 767
6. (+5) Kazistuta 765
7. (-2) Ferminal 760
8. (-1) ItalianGigolo 749
9. (-1) Ruvu75 733
10. (-) lenissart 727

Also worthy of note this week was the Cyclo-Cross World Championships, but the performance of Van der Haar gave little indication of his likely point scoring for his 5 teams, as he looks to do a full(ish) road season for Giant Shimano development team. However there are 36 teams that will be feeling reassured that they have a very special talent on their team.

I'm the second from the bottom, what a bad start... :(

Hope this changes after Dubai and Qatar.

Yes 3rd best scorer of the week :) thanks to Rabottini Villella and Rosa :)

Just behind this week with 4th place, though out of those three I only share Villella with you. It's always nice to appear in an update even if it is for pocket change. Anyway, can't wait for real racing to get underway.

Top 10 2 weeks in a row! This is already a good year I guess! Now Phinney win in Dubai and Cameron/Gerrans in Herald. Oh, and Taarame in Ettoile!
