Having both Gerrans and Quintana in my team I feel pretty happy with San Luis and Down Under...I hope they will both get the GC! I also expect Pozzato to get a win tonight in San Luis!

I think we are talking next to eachother now. You arr talking about a possible official ranking right? If so, you're completely right, I was talking about a hypothetical ranking which would make this game more 'fair', which is relative of course, because everyone has Access to the same knowledge. It was just hypothetical.

De Clercq crashed out of the Vuelta and he had to work for Greipel in the Tour. But his performances on some mountainous stages were very promising. 6th on Alto Penas Blancas and 11th on le Ventoux. Cq doesn't tell the whole tale about a rider's season.

Do you even read? Did I tell De Clercq is an overrated rider? I didn't. I only told that a race this early can hardly mean anything for the rest of the season, as anything can still happen. The only thing you can say about the races already ridden is that they did or didn't give you a good amount of points already.
And since this IS cq-game, cq ranking tells a lót about how much a rider's value that particular season, and even more, it tells everything about it.

Looking at his score in 2013, De Clercq wasn't all that bad either, so perhaps he is an example of a rider who did continue his early season performances.

Besides, it's better to have some riders scoring points, confirming they are healthy and in good shape at this point in the season, than some guys whose form is still questionable.

Hmm. I wouldn't call him a good pick in 2013. But then again, De Clercq was just an example.

Besides, I have Atapuma myself, so that's not the point I'm making. Having a rider who scored some points already is nice, because of the points and the fact that you can see his winter wasn't all that bad. But on the other hand it doesn't tell you anything about the future, so after maybe 1% off all the race days this season I don't think you can already make any conclusion, as anything can happen.

It does tell you a little bit, even if Fabian Cancellara did really well up to Gent-Wevelgem anything could still happen ( he could crash and break a leg for example).

It is not that absolute. Early season form from established riders almost always bodes very well for the future.

Actually Bart De Clercq did not do THAT bad in 2013 : It was his best year in CQ pts :)
He is probably one of those racers overrated by some managers here and elsewhere.

Man, TDU is really going horrible for me. With Dennis and Voeckler I thought I was pretty sure of two top 10 spots and I thought maybe Morton, Wackermann could do something too, top 20 or something and I had Goss and Van Poppel for the sprints. Voeckler crashes out, Dennis underperforms, Morton works for Dennis and loses time, Wackermann was on his way to ~20 spot, but lost 14 minutes on a flat stage and Van Poppel and Goss haven't gotten arround to sprinting yet. :eek:

Phil Gaimon lost his lead today ... oh well, if he can hold his second place he will triple his points. Either way already into profit so a lucky pick nevertheless :D

Also wondering if Quintana can keep his early season form until Giro or even Tour if they decide to give him a shot at the TDF.

You could say that about every rider that scores really well. I don't believe in it. You don't win the game with 1 or 2 or 3 riders but with your whole team.

Having said that, I do wish I had picked Gerrans. I considered him but didn't realize there was such a huge number of points up for grabs for him in Ozland.

I kind of agree and disagree. I think you probably do win (or it is possible to win, certain editions of the game) with the right 3 or 4 riders ie the ones with the really dramatic points earned but not selected by more than 15-20 teams. and that as long as the other 30 or so riders do ok or not too badly and you have covered all the really key popular choices that can be a winning formula.

On the other hand for those without Gerrans, yes he's one that got away but of the teams likely to make up the top 10 after TDU and San Luis only one I think has all of EBH, Uran and Moser who all have the potential to offer a similar profit to the one Gerrans looks like he will produce. (Gerrans teams not in the top 10 are likely to be missing either Sanchez or Gerdemann). The likelihood is that there are still to emerge the other riders that will have a Gerrans like impact. So for non-Gerro'mate teams like myself, hope that you have some or all of those and you should still be doing pretty well.

Well, gotta admit I totally misjudged Simon Gerrans. Wrote off 2012 as his 'career form' year and thought last year was more of a return to expectations. We'll see if he carries it forwards, it's a long year, but with the Sun Tour going to 2.1 he'll have to have a really poor rest of the year to not be a really good pick.

Team's not doing so hot - nobody's shown anything in the TDU (admittedly only 4 riders, but Dennis blowing the 2nd straight year sucks) and all I got is Anacona at 14th in San Luis... even Taylor Phinney couldn't pick up a TT win in a 2.1 race for me.

Ah well, my eye's on Dubai - didn't realize it had a TT, and looks like it will be mostly decisive, which is good news as Phinney, Van Baarle and Craddock are all on the startlist as of now, just the kinda guys who can have a good TT and maybe hold on for a hilly stage.

And then - Contador starts his season.

A sixth place in San Luis would be a great result for my unique pick Sepulveda. And of course I encourage him to continue like that for the rest of 2014. :p
