Update #33: Going Postal

Most teams did not get very many points this week, but that cannot be said for the week's top scorer, uspostal. Starting the week in 146th place out of 150, uspostal was the top scorer by a whopping 160 points, thanks to TJVG, Busche, and Howes in Colorado, as well as Nizzolo in Germany. This impressive haul did not bring him into the list of the week's high movers, however (moving him up only to 136th overall). Instead, it was greenedge who moved up 17 places overall, in large part (not surprisingly) to the Orica Greenedge riders Gerrans and Matthews.

This Week's Top Scorers

1 uspostal 670
2 Yellow Knight 510
3 Bicycle_Boy 463
4 greenedge 462
5 Blues in the bottle 437

This Week's High Movers

1 greenedge (+17)
2 Bicycle_Boy (+14)
2 Kazistuta (+14)
4 ironsscally (+13)
5 CraZyCaLL (+11)

In the overall competition, Pentacycle extended his lead to 654 points. 2nd through 10th are separated by less than 200 points! The main change in the top ten this week was Oliveira's return after an absence of several weeks, and Slow_Rider's departure. Looking ahead to the Vuelta, the key factors in determining the victor may be the performances of Quintana, Contador, and Uran: of the top ten, three have Contador, one has Quintana, two have Uran, one has Quintana and Contador, and three have Contador and Uran.

Top Ten Overall:

1 (-) Pentacycle 10655
2 (+1) Cykeltyven 10001
3 (-1) minessa 9948
4 (-) The Hitch 9932
5 (-) *Falze* 9882
6 (-) PeterB 9847
7 (+4) Oliveira 9846
8 (-1) freshman 9826
9 (-1) Geraint Too Fast 9811
10 (-1) MCardinalR 9806

why is Aru score for last week -1?

Update #34: Hugo on Top

Another low-scoring week. The top scorer this week was our game's esteemed founder, Hugo Koblet, and even he had no rider with more than 86 points. the_fool_on_the_hill was the top mover, gaining nine places.

This Week's Top Scorers

1 Hugo Koblet 364
2 vladimir 348
3 gustienordic 329

4 archieboy (+7)

Just minor changes in the top ten overall. The top three are unchanged, with Pentacycle maintaining a lead of more than 600 points. PeterB and Oliveira moved up two, while The Hitch and *Falze* slipped by two. Yellow Knight is a new arrival in the top ten.

If anyone is more adept at Excel than I am, perhaps they can rectify an error that has crept into the workbook this week--the automated top weekly and monthly mover columns no longer appear to work; I had to come up with those lists manually.

Look at that indeed:D:D!! Second this week, and both winner and highest climber in August. And with Contador doing great in the Vuelta I suddenly believe I can climb quite high this year after an abysmal start.

A good race to hope a victory for this game in october.

QUINTANA crash !

But, 1.Pentacycle, 2.Cykeltyven, 3.minessa, 4.The Hitch, 5.Falze, 6.PeterB, 7.Oilveira, 8.Freshman (for exemple) don't have the colombian... (And GeraintTooFast Don't have A.Contador or Uran).

No chance! I'm dissapointed.

Update #35: Riding on the Vuelta

Pentacycle continues to maintain a large lead, although the top ten are getting slightly more bunched up. A lot will depend on the final result in the Vuelta. Everyone in the top ten has Contador, except for PeterB and *Falze*. Several teams were hurt by Uran's disastrous ride yesterday. Only Pentacycle, freshman, and *Falze* are missing Aru. Only TheHitch has Barguil.

Moving from the overall to the weekly scores, Oliveira was our top scorer this week, moving up two places to third overall in the process. del1962 was second, helping him to move from 51st to 39th overall. will10 moved into the top ten on the strength of this week. rywann is now lurking just outside the top ten after moving up six places to 11th overall.

This Week's Top Scorers

1 Oliveira 727
2 del1962 651
3 will10 604
4 Team_Roubaix 574
5 rywann 552

Team_Roubaix was the high mover this week, climbing an impressive 14 places. It was another big week for R_O_Shipman, who was among the high movers last week, and for greenedge, who was the high mover two weeks ago.

This Week's High Movers

1 Team_Roubaix +14
2 R_O_Shipman +13
3 del1962 +12
3 greenedge +12
5 Reno +9
5 Wallenquist +9

Top Ten Overall

1 Pentacycle 11428 (-)
2 Cykeltyven 10817 (-)
3 Oliveira 10816 (+2)
4 minessa 10704 (-1)
5 The Hitch 10541 (+1)
6 MCardinalR 10501 (+3)
7 freshman 10400 (+1)
8 PeterB 10398 (-4)
9 will10 10382 (+4)
10 *Falze* 10353 (-3)

I still can't get the weekly and monthly top movers to function properly in the spreadsheet, even when I go back to work with an older version.

Assuming that Contador wins the Vuelta, and given that no relevant teams have Froome, Valverde or Rodriguez (SamJourno being the only one courageous enough to pick Froome), it seems most likely that Contador is a prerequisite for featuring in the final Top 10. Maybe if someone's rare pick scores many WC or Lombardy points, there could still be a chance... but I doubt it.

Or does someone without Contador still have faith?

Please disregard hitch's update - i think he his trolling me - Ive got about 1400 more points than that!

not sure if CQ released a duff download or something. As it happens Shalgo still has one more update to do before its Hitch's turn.

Update #36: Into the Homestretch

As could be expected with the large number of points on offer at the Vuelta, Tour of Britain, Quebec City, and Montreal (along with many other races), many teams had significant point hauls and there were large jumps and falls in the standings. Our overall leader, Pentacycle, remains the same. He also still has a lead of more than 400 points, though it did shrink this week. The rest of the top 10 saw many changes, including the entrances of rywann, EvansIsTheBest, and tomazo. tomazo jumped 11 places, from 21st to 10th.

Freshman, *Falze*, and PeterB fell out of the top ten, the latter slipping all the way from 8th to 28th. In the end, whether one has Contador or not is proving decisive.

TheHitch was perhaps particularly eager to see this week's update as he moves into third place overall.

will10 was our top scorer this week, with 1780 points, led by Contador, Aru, and Navardauskas. This was enough to move him from 9th to 5th overall.

This Week's Top Scorers

1 will10 1780
2 skidmark 1732
3 merengues 1730
4 tomazo 1686
5 The Hitch 1645

As mentioned above, there were many significant moves in the standings this week. Our high mover, merengues, jumped an astonishing 45 places--from 112th to 67th, with points from (among many others) Contador, Aru, Van Baarle, and Barguil. There were so many large moves this week that skidmark, who jumped from 44th to 24th, does not even make the high movers list. It is also worth noting that greenedge has made this list 3 out of the last 4 weeks, in the process moving from 110th to 56th overall.

This Week's High Movers

1 merengues +45
2 Lortnoc +37
3 marthaagard +35
4 mutschi +26
5 greenedge +21

Top Ten Overall

1 Pentacycle 12800 (-)
2 Cykeltyven 12376 (-)
3 The Hitch 12186 (+2)
4 Oliveira 12167 (-1)
5 will10 12162 (+4)
6 minessa 12078 (-2)
7 MCardinalR 11945 (-1)
8 rywann 11798 (+3)
9 EvansIsTheBest 11706 (+4)
10 tomazo 11679 (+11)

Thanks for the update. Complete failure for me but still exciting battle in the TOP 10. I think Pentacycle already has this one in the bag but still fearless fight for the 2nd. Good edition IMO

The best thing this year was that the main point scorers for the top teams were very different so it made for more swapping of positions depending on who was performing where. The previous years, the best team tended to have the same heavy hitters and the gap simply grew and grew as the less expensive picks made the difference, which isn't as entertaining.

It's nice to be back in the top ten after being so far back at the end of the Giro. My only regret is that Aru is the last guy I took out my team and he is having a great season. Then again, Ciolek was the last guy I took out last year and he went on to win MSR so by now I am getting used to the last guy I cut ending up as a game changing pick.

Holy cow! I was a hairsbreadth away from doing a double of high scoring the youth game and the main game in the same week! Grateful for some positivity finally in the main game; I think this is my highest ranking all year, or at least since the 'real' season started in March.

I really wasn't sure where I'd end up this week, I knew that if Conti went on to win and Aru did well I had a good chance, but 2nd in the week is definitely a surprise. It was funny - I was out at a music festival from Thursday to Sunday without internet, and caught up on the Vuelta and Canadian races (huge disappointment for my squad) and thought 'well, that's probably an okay week', and then went to cq mainpage, only to realize I had forgotten the Tour of Britain was even going on, and that Van Baarle (my second most unique pick) had won! Excellent bonus. Dunno what to expect for the end of the year, but I'd be happy with a top 20.

I guess I was 'lucky' (it seems weird calling it that when talking about injuries) that Uran and Quintana dropped out of the Vuelta, as they were 2 big names that several people had. Indeed, Pentacycle's lead looks solid, but I can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings.

Lest I get too full of my own team, it's worth noting that Contador scored more points this WEEK than anyone else on the team the whole year save Aru and Boonen (barely). Dunno if anyone can shoulder that load next year.

The contest can still be greatly affected by the performances of Gerrans and Kwiatkowski, who seem to be on course for great results at the world championships and the races that follow. I'm not home yet.
