By the way, there is some bug in the rankings tab of the spreadsheet due to which two teams are placed at the very bottom instead of at their proper place... The formula in column A calculating their rank needs just small adjustment I guess.

Thanks for pointing that out. I have been encountering various bugs with the Excel Workbook; I think it is something to do with incompatibilities between different versions of the software. But I will see if I can correct it and upload another version of the file.

It looks like my rare pick Landa will pay off well this year. I really hope Ulissi will rock as well. (and of course Horner as well, but I must say it hurt that his team isn't invited to the big American races, which I was counting on)

Thanks for the update. As pointed above, my team is not scored. I think I would have been the biggest jump of the week if the total points are correct. ;)

Points this week

Tour de Picardie (2.1)
HIVERT Jonathan 15

Bayern Rundfahrt (2.HC)
JANSE VAN RENSBURG Reinardt 26
I am angry cause Reinardt finished top 10 in 4 out of 5 stages but because this god damn race is decided entirely in the ITT he only finished 14th overall
ah well 26 points is nice for Reinardt as I wasn't expecting anything
MOSER Moreno 5

Tour of California (2.HC)
assuming GC positions don't change
GESINK Robert 74
DOMBROWSKI Joseph Lloyd 84
HENAO MONTOYA Sergio Luis 100
CRADDOCK Lawson 5
Craddock completely collapsed yesterday. And Ratto is 3rd last :D

Giro d'Italia (2.WT)
CONTADOR VELASCO Alberto 99
ATAPUMA HURTADO Jhon Darwin 1 :p
RUFFONI Nicola 2 :p
PORTE Richie 18
PAOLINI Luca 7

So far everything is looking good in il Giro with Berto leading, Porte on the podium and Puma just outside top 10 (12th) *touches wood*

436 total, I am happy with that

Well, I never expected to say something like this, but:

TdC sure was fun! Especially CQ-wise for me at 1-3-4-5

On a more serious note: What's wrong with Björn Thurau? Still knee-problems after Dunkerque?
Plus, Bayern Rundfahrt is just disappointing. So many nice and selective climbs (even without the Alps) and it's all about the ITT.

Well, this was an unexpectedly good week for my team. I expected (and continue to expect) the Giro to be the least profitable of the 3 GTs for my team, which is:

Atapuma
Chevrier
Vervaeke
Porte

Four guys on my team in a GT, and two of them neo-pros there for experience and little else - I don't know if I've ever had such a bleak team for any WT race, let alone a GT. Of the two non-neos, Porte is a legit GC threat but everyone has him; Atapuma seems to be doing solidly at the Giro and in general this year, but like 70 folks have him, so I don't really expect to get an edge. The only real silver lining is that not many people really have any big contenders for the Giro on their teams (ie. Contador, Aru, Uran). But yeah, I always expected this to be a down time of year, with Rodriguez focused on the Tour/Vuelta and Sagan with his sights on the tour.

But, oh yeah, Sagan WON the friggin' Tour of California. Crazy. With that haul, he's made up for his lacklustre spring and is a few points ahead of where he was at this point last year. A solid Suisse and Tour and then a better performance around the Worlds than last year could still make him a very good pick in the end.

Aside from that, I got 3-4-5 in GC as well, although I expect there are more than a few with the Henao/Dombro/Gesink combo. And of course I had Cav. But 8-10-13 at Picardie got me 75 points (plus a few for stages) as well, so I've kept my head above water this week for sure.

Hmm, if Sagan does Post Danmark Rundt (not that I find it more likely that he will than he won't), he could score as many points (if not more) there as in Cali. It will be interesting to see what he'll race between the Tour and WC.

Sagan did an excellent job this week, but I needed this after some disappointing weeks from my team. Also good to see is Betancur who is racing again at a decent level. In a best case scenario he could take 150 - 200 points this Giro, although it's very optimistic.

It's so annoying when you have riders who you are convinced are very talented, but who keep on doing races where they won't score much points.

For instance, I still think Kudus is a great climbing talent, but he isn't earning any points so far. He crashed out of Langkawi, which is simply bad luck; but why on earth is he riding races like Yorkshire and Bayern Rundfahrt, instead of Turkey and California?! I'm confident he would be in profit right now if he didn't crash in Langkawi and did Turkey and California instead of a bunch of races without real climbs........

Re: Re:

Update #19: Sagan Too Fast

One of the big questions from the beginning of this year's game was which, if any, of the popular "expensive" picks--Froome, Sagan, and Rodriguez--would pay off. It is still unclear whether any of them will end up in profit, but Sagan took a big step towards rewarding the players who picked him with his victory at the Tour of California this week. Four of this week's five top scorers were therefore "Sagan" teams, including will10, who amassed more than 1000 points. In addition to Sagan, will10 had several high scorers from California, including Henao, Dombrowski, Gesink, and Cavendish, and the winner of the Bayern Rundfahrt, Alex Dowsett, who was picked by only eight teams.

This week's top scorers

1 will10 1029
2 Mellow Velo 918
3 freshman 852
4 the_fool_on_the_hill 824
5 fauniera 801

With all of the points on offer this week, it is not surprising that there were some significant moves in the overall standings. Mellow Velo was the highest mover of the week, climbing 33 places, while several others climbed 20 or more spots. freshman moved from 68th to 38th. the_fool_on_the_hill went from 55th to 26th. Jspear appears in this list for the second week in a row.

This week's high movers

1 Mellow Velo +33
2 freshman +30
3 the_fool_on_the_hill +29
4 fauniera +25
5 Jspear +22

In the green jersey competition, afpm90 stays in the lead, while will10 enters the top 10 in second place, thanks to this week's stage victory. 130 teams have now scored at least one point in the green jersey competition.

Green jersey competition

1 afpm90 127
2 will10 114
3 Kjellus 108
4 shalgo 95
5 asdfgh101 93
6 The Hitch 93
7 LaFlorecita 85
8 derrudi 83
9 freshman 82
10 PeterB 78

In the overall competition: after slipping out of the top two last week, Geraint Too Fast returns with a vengeance to retake the top spot. will10 returns to the top ten, in fifth place, after dropping out last week. The other significant changes in the top ten are that skidmark climbed from 10th to 6th, while Kjellus fell from 5th to 10th.

Geraint Too Fast and PeterB become the first two teams to go into profit for the season.

Top 10 overall

1 Geraint Too Fast 7586
2 PeterB 7515
3 snccdcno 7488
4 derrudi 7444
5 will10 7417
6 skidmark 7222
7 shalgo 7211
8 Londonpat 7140
9 Cykeltyven 7127
10 Kjellus 7056

Thanks for the update!

16th place, wow! Thats the highest I have been since the first edition.

Too bad I left Caleb Ewan out. With him I would be in the Top 10

On the subject of significant alternative picks, I was going through the workbook to find the top non-Porte team. It appears to be LightBing, in 40th place. If LightBing had Porte instead of EBH, then he/she would be in 4th place!

I've spend so much team creating my team this year, I was already in top 20, but last two months I'm going only downwards... it seems this will be my worst edition:( I have to change strategy next year, forget the statistics and rather create a team just by heart... damn:)
