I just finished my team. There are more midrange guys this year which isn't a zone where I have been particularly good at picking riders in the past but it is where I felt there was the most value to be gained this year (it seemed like there were very few appealing choices in the higher priced riders this year).

Yup, 'tis true! Still 24 hours before publishing teams on this thread, please everyone.

My unofficial count for teams is at 138 right now. A few teams I've asked to resubmit because they had the wrong format, a few teams I've asked to correct riders that are duplicates or over the limit. All of these teams are included in the 138... if you sent a PM that got lost in the ether (or somehow overlooked by me, which happens when you get 60 entries in a 30-hour period), please let me know. You can tell because below I'm listing the teams that I have, in alphabetical order. If you don't see your team on there, drop me a PM. And if you have been requested to resubmit teams, I've sent you a PM, and I will have sent a confirmation PM to everyone else. So check your personal messages, please and thank you. Can't wait to start!

No The Hitch this year? :(

I guess we should have also posted a reminder in the Clinic section as it seems that Hitch and many others are only participating in that conversation ....

Speaking of the clinic, the latest clinic thread is not good news for my team. I have six Germans. :p

It seems like we are missing six out of the 24 members who have participated in all previous editions: The Hitch, Handbrake, The Amateur, theyoungest, sublimit & trotters aotearoa.

trotters just touched base with me, it seems that a PM got lost in the ether. But yes, I haven't heard from those others yet. As I stated before though, the publication deadline is in place for such purposes, and so if anyone else has had an issue with submission, I'll for sure accept teams as long as it's fair for everyone (ie. before teams are publicly available to view).

I'm just trying to get together the popularity tab, and after entering five teams, there are 5 riders that are shared by all those teams. There were only 9 riders shared between the first 2 teams. I think, at least from my own experience of winnowing down the choices on my team, that there are probably 10-12 really common picks, but everyone will have a slightly different configuration out of those picks; and then beyond that it's a bit more guesswork. I found this year interesting - there were a bunch of good looking upper-mid priced picks that you could probably include, but you could also argue yourself out of spending that much on those riders. I'm curious to see where it all comes down!

edit: after ten teams, there are no more riders that are on every team.

There is an unusual amount of very solid riders who had a low scoring 2015 for different reasons. There are also quite a few promising young riders who are due a breakout year, including some neo-pros. Additionally, among the 500-1000 riders, there are a good number of viable picks. In the 1000+ category, there are only maybe two or three who will be in a significant number of teams.

All this will make the teams quite different, I think, apart from some 5-10 picks who will be very popular. Even the teams fighting for the win at the end of the season could potentially have very different configurations, as good points can be had from many different sources. I think all this will make it a very exciting edition of the game.

As for points total, I think we will have the second highest winning score ever. The 2012 record of skidmark is not likely to be broken, as that year was exceptional, with unbelievable performances from a number of neo-pros in addition to Rogers, Costa and above all, Boonen. However, it is interesting to note that skidmark's all time high scoring 2012 team (19372 points) only had a 2010 value of 13537 points (which makes the achievement even more impressive). The second-highest scoring winning team was Cykeltyven's last year, with 16209 points and a 2013 value of 15597. My team this year (which is oviously my only point of reference so far) has a 2014 value of 17423 points. This is due to the number of established riders that are available this year. I expect this year's winning team to score somewhere in the region of this number.

It is of course worth noting that at the start of the 2013 season, someone predicted that 20000 points would easily be reached that year. The 2013 season ended up as the lowest-scoring ever, so my analysis could turn out to be complete garbage. :D

I believe that several regulars left CN around the re-organisation a few months ago: is there any other forum where they reconvened?

You can still enter your team today, as per the rules. I figured some would, as the rules allow for it. The first deadline isn't really a deadline for those who are sure their teams are eligible.

You can enter the team, but your entry does not have to be accepted. So in theory you could intentionally use this extra day in case some breaking news emerge today, but honestly, I would be quite ashamed in front of all other competitors who played by the rules. Of course, we have no way of checking whether the delay is honest or calculated, so that extra day is more or less available.

 I just remembered Hitch asked me to remind him when the deadline comes up... oopsie.. either way I've sent him a message he has till midnight, hopefully skidmark will still accept his team. Sublimit was on Velorooms a lot in previous years but haven't seen him in a while.

Having read the rules again I put it too bluntly. But yeah, with the disclaimer that skidmark could, in theory, deny (some of) those teams altogether.

I remembered the deadline as: 'january 5th at the latest'. I'm a little confused now, but I'll submit a team anyway in the hope that it will still be accepted.

I'm sure he just misread the deadline or his submission got lost in cyberspace. Who cares, it would be nice to have the regulars back.

... perhaps we could send a private message (or email if there is a way) to all those that participated in every edition.

Bwah! Why does the deadline have to be at midnight? I want to see what teams people picked today, but I also want to get out of bed at a respectable time tomorrow, which doesn't work very well when juxtapositoned with staying up to go through lots of teams and discussing their picks.

Oh well...... :p

Hey folks, a couple of things. First, thanks for holding off on the team reveal, I had hoped that would work but wasn't 100% sure the message would get through to all. Second, yeah the revision deadline was put in place so that a) I could check over each team a bit more carefully to see if there were duplicate riders or something that I didn't notice (because honestly, the last few days I am JUST copying and pasting and making new sheets on the spreadsheet, I don't have time to look at riders and teams at all), b) I'd have time to notify and allow people with mistakes to make changes while it was still 'fair' (ie. no one had seen any teams) and c) I'd be able to accept other teams at my discretion. For the third point, for example, today I woke up and had 3 messages of people saying they had sent their teams in the last couple of days but weren't on the list. That's hard to dispute - I've had PMs seemingly disappear before, and they got back to me in a timely fashion after I posted what teams I had by the deadline. So, it seems a lot better to be able to accept these guys than have an argument on the thread about whether it's fair to do so, which has happened in other years.

I really didn't want people to 'take advantage' of the second deadline by not submitting their teams by the first deadline, and it seems people respected that, so thanks. The hypothetical situation of an injury to a big rider in the intervening day would be a bit of a nightmare for me, but in that case ALL teams are allowed to make changes up to the revision deadline, so everyone has that same chance - I would just have to wade through a million PMs and make a bunch of changes, which wouldn't be fun.

Also, I got a team from sublimit so there are only 4 of the 'played every edition' folks I haven't got a team from. mc mountain told me he touched base with Hitch and was told that Hitch didn't have time for a team this year, so I don't expect one.

Anyway, there are less than 7 hours until we can reveal teams and things are coming together.

I'm hoping Hitch might have time to review the entries and see if he can identify some of the teams and riders that might have the biggest impact on the game - as it would be great to get his insight even he hasnt got a team entered.

Okay, it's 23:59 CET January 5th - publication deadline is up! No more entries, no more changes, unless you notice a mistake I made in entry and I have a backdated PM that proves it.

Time to post your teams! And then pick them apart, brag, lament who you missed, etc. This is the best part of the season, everyone is tied at zero.

Oh right, woo hoo! Makhchoun into profit! I only paid 11 for him, suckers.

Seriously though I don't think anybody has anybody who's scored in Egypt so far.
