Maybe we can list all the 0-pointers available, so Jancouver can make a team of 6 expensive guys and 27 0-pointers? If those expensive guys all double their points as Jancouver says, he scores 15000 points and likely wins

May be a great strategy for those not picking with their heart. Unfortunately, in my case, I always try to pick a combination of unique riders and riders I like.

This year I at least included the most obvious picks and only left out Lopez as I didn't want to risk any rider on Astana & Katusha. So top 20 is doable while still being somewhat creative and having some of my favs riders included. Therefore, Top 20 is my goal for next year too.

What is so risky about Astana and Katusha? is that a reference to potential doping? Man I have a lot to learn.

In my view, there are only 3-4 absolute must-haves.
I'd say there are 33 'must haves' to have a maximum score and probably a few less than that to win.

I don't understand this quote. Wouldn't maximum score give you the win? Maybe as a runner, I don't understand cyclist humour.

What I particularly don't like about this year is that I must decide on a few riders who disappointed me in the past. Of course I am tempted to ignore them as they are remembered as failures and my faith in them is shaken, but on the other hand I am aware that maybe I should fight this sentiment and take them at their current good value. How do other people do this? Do you like giving your riders second chance?

Oh my yes you have to give people a second chance. If you keep picking the same person every year and he keeps disappointing then you likely just have a hard time letting an old guy go.

I'm starting to feel the pressure here. Too many riders I want to jam into my team and too few cheap riders. I don't think I've had such a hard time create a team that I'm happy with.

This is part of the fum. Keeps you busy over the holidays.

Not to mention that CQranking haven't announced the categorisation of the new WT races.

The new races will be categorized halfway between .WT2 and .HC. Winner of Tour of Turkey for example will get 190 points, winner of Dwars Door Vlaanderen 180 points.

Just sent in my team. I tried a different approach this year. Here's some statistics:

Average age: 23,72
13 different nationalities, most from Italy (8)
18 different teams, most from Sky (6)
Point distribution:
0-99: 16
100-199: 7
200-299: 2
300-399: 0
400-499: 1
500-599: 2
600-699: 2
700-799: 1
800-899: 2

The SteelyDan approach :D

If there's one year where it could actually work, it's this one.

A Countdown to Ecstacy as he will win? A boring team, because he Can't Buy a Thrill? You think he should start over, and Everything Must Go, or that he has 31 (Pretzel) Logical picks, but the selection includes Two Against Nature, Or is the whole squad a Royal Scam?

(Moving into the tracks and singles now, rather than album titles)

We only know the average age, so don't really know if his chosen are Reeling in the Years, or whether they represent a Change of the Guard with some Show Biz Kids from My Old School, with perhaps some Hey Nineteen year olds or some other Kid Charlemagne among the neopros. Or maybe they had been shortlisted, but then he decided to Throw Back the Little Ones. With 18 nations represented, there must be at least one Third World Man:possibly one from North Africa to wear The Fez.

Lets hope none of them are caught up in brain doping: we wouldn't want you losing points if anyone spends Time Out of Mind: it would be a Black Friday if there were any of that sort of Dirty Work.

So what riders might My Rival have picked as his Jacks of Speed?
Jerome Cousin (or) Dupree Rodriguez
Josiel de Jesus Rodriguez Gaton
Ricky (don't lose that number Rosseel
Barry(town) Markus
Dale Parker's Band
Diego Rose Darling
Doctor Wu Qi Min
Deacon (Blue) Cutterham
Tom Black (Cow)

Who knows, he may yet be King of the World if his Gauchos all ride like Chain Lightning.

Of course, Squire might simply mean it is a conglomeration of those who are among the top performers in their own speciality, but who perhaps don't have the high profile that their quality should garner.

Team in. Did last-minute swap of two riders for two others, hope that was a good idea so late in the night... Italians prevailing on my team as well; is Zam or someone submitting an all-Italian team? Could do well this year.

Less than a day to go until the submission deadline! But remember, there's a 24 hour period after that for me to confirm all the teams and take any changes from teams that had errors etc, so don't post your teams on the thread until after that period has passed, please.

75 teams so far - I think that's a few less than I had last year with 24 hours to go, but I remember I got swamped in the last day, so you never know how many teams will end up playing.

Hmmm?? Am I missing something with all those Italians everybody seems to have? I only got four.

There are bucket loads of Italian talents that I contemplated but in the end I couldn't really fit them into my team, some of them might turn out to be great picks but they're not necessarily of the must have ilk, I think. Besides that there's one Italian rider whom I think will be fairly common and whom I probably should've picked. I only realized I missed him a bit later on. There were two riders of almost the same price I could've swapped for him; in my mind those two riders have a significantly higher roof, but are also quit risky and unpredictable. Since we're not talking about the cheapest riders here, going for safety would probably have been the more rational decision, but I really like those two risky picks so imma just hope I get lucky. :D

After all my back and forthing, I ended up with only two Italians. I fear that this first timer is going to look like a fool. Or, a big time genius.

TDU now offers more points than Itzulia. WTF, cq?!

I kinda get why Romandie gets an upgrade, but why downgrade Itzulia and upgrade TDU???

Just started to build my team! I decided I will go with almost a full Italian team because this year there are a lot of good picks in Italy and my knowledge of italian cycling is better than any other. One of my big objectives this season will be the green jersey too!

Is it a WT decision or CQ Decision?
UCI/World Tour has the same categorisation, CQ follows it. Don't know why the UCI upgrades the TDU.
That's true for the 2.WT3 category, but the distinction between 2.WT1 and 2.WT2 is made by CQ alone.

But in 2017 the UCI followed CQ, see the PDF in http://www.uci.ch/pressreleases/single-points-scale-for-calculating-the-uci-world-ranking-and-uci-worldtour-rankings-from-207/
