Meanwhile my sprinters Consonni and Minali have scored 117 points this weekend, ten points more than i am behind. But now comes the Tour of Britain, where your team (Rogla, Boom, Mullen) is much stronger than mine (Dillier, who probably has to work for Küng, and Doull).

Update #34: Overall lead switches hands on otherwise quiet week

The second week of the Vuelta was the only WorldTour action this week; with only stage points to give out, a couple of 1.HC races, and the very-few-pro-teams Tour of Alberta, it was all in all pretty quiet - definitely a chance for teams not in the overall to have a chance in the spotlight!

Team Roar Like A Mouse gets a second weekly win in the last month; a score of 358 is pretty low for a week in this game, but in this case it was enough to grab victory by 18 points. This is largely due to Miguel Angel Lopez finally having a great week after a rough year; 180 points were enjoyed by the 19 teams that chose him. Some handy points from rarer picks Stuyven, Fraile, and Soren Kragh Andersen seal the top spot for RLAM. Blues in the bottle has a good week to grab second, while a tie for third includes team trackstand, who score their very first points of the year in the Green Jersey competition.

August is over, and the dust settles to show a very close victorie by Hakkie2! An impressive month buoyed by (in descending order of points scored on the month) Elia Viviani (637), Dylan Teuns (525), Mikel Landa (252), Lars Boom (163), Giulio Ciccone (151), Simone Consonni (140), and Domenico Pozzovivo (102). barmaher gets second place without Teuns, but with Viviani and great contributions from Stuyven, Landa, Lopez, Enric Mas and David Gaudu. Blues in a bottle sneaks into third place on the month.

Some similar names at the top. And, no mistake about it, the month belonged to twice-weekly champ RLAM. A thirty point jump took their team out of the top 100 overall and into the weekly spotlight. Several other teams leapt about 20 places this month, headed by barmaher's 20-place ascension into the top 20 overall.

It's heating up at the top! Second place weekly finisher Blues in the bottle transforms this week's 35 points into a leap up the ovearall standings, landing only 5 points behind fauniera in the ranking. No other teams in the top 5 score this week, but Roar Like A Mouse parlays two weekly wins and three weeks in the points in the last month into cracking the top 10, at 8th overall. As mentioned above, trackstand scores their first points of the year, meaning only one team has yet to score a point this year! C'mon, team I'm not going to name here!

Look at this! After weeks holding the top spot, the asian falls behind fauniera by FIVE POINTS! It's close at the top. Five out of 13085 is 0.0382% of a difference, wow. fauniera having Consonni and Minali was the difference maker this week in outscoring the asian by 112 and sneaking ahead.

No other changes in the top 10, but things have definitely gotten interesting! Well, what's coming up this week? Oh, not much, just - THE VUELTA GC, as well as the Canadian races. Stay tuned for next update! It'll be a good one, I will get it out as soon as I can on Monday.

Still sitting 3rd, but I had the worst week of the Top20 and the Vuelta won't help me down the road, especially since Kämna DNS today aswell. (yes, that's only 15 points, but looking at the gaps between 3rd and 8th, I'll need each and every one of them)

Thanks for the update.

The Vuelta really hasn't been going well for me. Betancur and Pozzovivo probably were my two most important picks for the race and both have already abandoned. Degenkolb was at least a very popular pick so abandonment wasn't such a big deal, especially since Theuns is now the #1 sprinter of the team, but well, since there are no sprints in this vuelta he makes hardly any points as well. Meanwhile Carapaz showed some great shape in the first week but hasn't gotten one single point.
Denifl's win today was basically the first good result for my team in the whole vuelta.

I just hope that I'll stay in the top ten for as long as possible because right now moving upwards looks very difficult.

I think it's just incredibly hard to do well in this game when you participate for the first time. Last year I was a newcomer and got 135th place (out of 144 players btw) simply because I didn't know which riders to pick. I mostly went for young riders which I thought weren't at the peak of their career, thinking they will surely improve. This year I mostly picked riders in the middle of their career who had a 2016 season which was clearly worse than their previous ones and the only really young riders I picked where extremely cheap ones like Carapaz. Because of that tactic I missed guys like Bernal or Roglic (who isn't exactly young but this is still only his 2nd year in a big team) but still I went from one of the worst players in 2016 to already being in the top 10 for around 2 months in 2017.

I also think so. It's mainly because you take time to learn the nitty gritty things needed to win this.
It's not just a case of picking riders who have underperformed the previous year or filling your riders with young ones who you think will improve.
With the way points can be scored in CQ, riders of certain countries and certain teams have way more opportunities to score than other riders. It's important that you don't miss on that.

You need to have a couple of heavy hitters who will bring you points in Stage Races, 3-4 Sprinters, and 2-3 riders who ride for PCT or Conti Teams (French, Belgian or Italian) who will bring you points in Europe Tour Races.

This year was the first year I picked a couple of guys to specifically focus on the minor races (Hivert & GVK) and both have been very solid.

If a First Timer gets in to the top 10 that's a mightilly impressive performance.

This is not really correct. You only need riders who improve their tally from last year, and preferrably riders who improve their tally more than the ones picked by other teams. Whether they're GC riders, sprinters or continental riders doesn't really matter.

You don't need a spread of rider types. But there are riders who had bad seasons or who are big talents in most specialisations, so the 'obvious' picks are often gonna be naturally distributed among the different rider types.

Update #35: Manafana Wins Vuelta a Espana

Well, the week anyway, but please, just humour me with that forced pun. So, what a week! The GC of a Grand Tour always has an impact on this game, and although it's quite a ways through the season, there was the potential for quite some shakeup. Last week's top scorer got 358; this week's top scorer got 991 points more than that. Let's see how it shook out!

I'm sorry zlev11, you were SO close! Manafana wins the week by FOUR POINTS with 1349; biiiig points from the Vuelta, with top 3 most expensive picks on the team Nibali (447), Zakarin (362) and Kruijswijk (155) getting some handy points from the Vuelta GC, and some helpful pulls from Canada (Vuillermoz, 136) and Britain (Kung, 105). Add in Doull's 50 and some low double digit point pickups and that's the winning recipe this week. Go big or go home! zlev11 almost won going even more top-heavy, with Nibali, Zakarin, Lopez and Aru the triple digit scorers of the week (along with some decent scoring from Gaviria, Viviani and Benoot). sodak_za wasn't quite as close to the win, but got an honorable third with some spread out points: Zakarin, Boom, Vuillermoz, Kung... as well as another 83 points from excellent unique pick Sepp Kuss.

Okay okay, so a 1300 point week isn't going to shuffle the deck as crazily after the Vuelta as, say, the Giro, but jumping more than 20 places in mid-September is an impressive thing. zlev11 gets some revenge, winning this ranking by 4 places over Manafana after losing the other by 4 points. Crevaison rounds out the podium.

I'll start rolling out the whole spread of the top 10 starting with this update to give a better picture of the competition. Not a huge week for the top 10 - it was the time for rare GC picks to shine (ie. Nibali and Zak), so those who've been scoring all year weren't as likely to. Third place scrooll07 picked up 8 points to move a bit closer to the lead, but no other scoring in the top 10. If you look down the list, the top 6 are all in a position to take the lead if they win a week and no one above them scores.

After relinquishing the lead by the slimmest of margins last week, the asian slides back in a bit more comfortably, outscoring fauniera by 108 on the week to open a 103 point lead. Kazistuta moves onto the podium by 5 points (and only 9 points on top of 5th-placed HelgeBlendet!), but is a goodly ways behind the top 2. It'll take a great Worlds and late-Italian season by someone outside of the top 2 steps to make a run at the final victory. The stage is set for the run to the finish line; I can't wait to see how it plays out.

LOL at the notion that Martin will ever score big in a time trial :lol:

Well, one could hope so. And Gilbert would be wise to pull out a late-season surge similiar to his spring performance

My goal for now is securing the podium spot, while a top5 placing would be more than approved.

Thanks for the update. Decent week for me with place 38, which is the 4th best result out of the top ten and two of the better scorers were placed 35th and 36th. However I still lost a place and am now 10th but on the bright side I'm only 100 points away from place 7. Anyway I just hope I'll have a few good weeks again. My team was always decent this summer but I still went backwards slowly and surely so I hope to move upwards again anytime soon.

An honour to top the table after the Vuelta week.

Kruj let us down with his late withdrawal in Giro, but he has shown here again he is grand tour rider. I built the team in hope of a Giro/Vuelta double, we went close in both, and will take the life to mid table.

Even at top I can but wonder what a fit Fraille could have done in the mountains, Not sure how team will fare now Nibali now injured puts his post Vuelta run of races in jeopardy
