The 2023 CQ Ranking Manager Thread

Page 41 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
having been joint 101st (2nd last) 8 weeks ago, I am now into the top 15. I guess that is what happens when Roglic and Van der Poel start their seasons!

so far it looks like my only potential points this week will come from P-R, hopefully Van der Poel, Vermeesch, Asgreen, Stuyven, Lampaert and the others can get me a few.

Losing Bilbao didn't hurt me too much in Itzulia, considering I got 2nd, 3rd and 6th + a stage win and some other stage and GC placings, which I think scored me 634 points in total. I could of course have scored more than that if my riders had taken all the top spots, so there's still room for improvement.

When I see Higuita, Bagioli and Skjelmose go 1-2-3 in a WT event I miss my 2022 team. Admittedly I miss my 2022 team the rest of the time as well because my current one is garbage but that's another issue.
I have exactly the same feelings...
My this year team is full of busts:(
And there is no new Arnaud...

Update #14: Basque in the Glory

This week was a big one in cycling and a smaller one in the CQ game. With the solo pick Vingegaard cleaning up in Itzulia and the unpicked Philipsen eating up points from the cobbled races, the excitement of the week was mostly on the road rather than the CQ game. One would think that the lone Vingegaard holder or the 15 MvdP owners would clean up on the week, but then one would forget that there is a purpose-built Basque team in this game, and this is their Holy Week.

This Week's Top Scorers

RankTeamPoints this week
1Basque Street Boys637
2Jon_Ezeitza455
3JumboVismaFan447
4escartin433
5PandaClaws425

The Basque Street Boys mop the floor with the competition this week, winning by nearly 200 points, or 40% higher than the next highest score. Their team is fuelled by Landa (223 points), Ion Izagirre (172) and Higuita (134), Izagirre being the only rider owned by any other team (and just one at that). Jon Ezeitza is the hinted at lone Vingegaard owner, and his 398 points are most of the haul that got Jon Ezeitza to 2nd this week. JumboVismaFan ends up just behind in third, the highest MvdP team to take advantage of his 280 points, buffered by a nice 118 from Enric Mas (2 teams).

This Week's High Movers

RankTeamUp/down
1Basque Street Boys(+24)
2JumboVismaFan(+20)
3PandaClaws(+18)
4Popchu(+16)
5Googolplex(+15)

The high scores for two of the three podium finishers translates into high moves here, as Basque Street Boys and JVF both jump over 20 places. Panda Claws takes the third spot here, climbing 18 spots on the table thanks to MvdP of course.

Green Jersey Competition

RankTeamTotal
1rote_laterne166.5
2Blues in the bottle159.5
3escartin146
4bminchow137.3
5Jakob747122.3

escartin continues an impressive run, scoring 26 points to move from 5th to 3rd on this ranking and keeping up a streak of 4 weeks in a row of scoring 14 or more green jersey points. No weekly scoring from the rest of the top 5.

Top 10 Overall

RankUp/downTeamPoints
1(-)Blues in the bottle5090
2(-)Whoops4803
3(+5)will104672
4(-)Riverside4655
5(-2)tobydawq4622
6(+1)repre4605
7(+6)Kazistuta4591
8(+7)escartin4579
9(-)Crevaison4564
10(-4)HoudiniCycling4540

It's stable at the top, although Blues in the bottle's lead has tightened by about 140 points after Whoops had a relatively good week. Those two are in front of the rest of the field by a decent amount, but it's pretty tight from 3rd on down (132 points separate 3rd and 10th). Kazistuta and escartin move into the top 10 at the expense of DJW and jsem94 fall out.

This week sees things roll along with the 2.1 Giro di Sicilia, Brabantse Pijl mid-week, Amstel Gold on the weekend, and a few other .1 races as well.

Still 2nd place overall, very happy about that. Expected some of the MVDP teams to end up higher. It's all very close, a few good results from Pidcock and I'm out of the top 10.

Quite a few starters this week and with Hodeg this week and Valgren last week all of my riders have started their season.

De Brabantse Pijl: Maybe not the biggest favorites, but a decent line-up. Curious to see what Healy can do against stronger opposition, I also exepct a good result from Simmons and Kwiatkowski
TARLING Joshua
DE POOTER Dries
HOELGAARD Markus
HEALY Ben
SIMMONS Quinn
VALGREN HUNDAHL (ANDERSEN) Michael
KWIATKOWSKI Michal

Amstel Gold Race: Again not the biggest favorites, but a few guys that can ride the final and maybe finish top 5/10
TARLING Joshua
HOELGAARD Markus
SCHELLING Ide
MOSCON Gianni
GREGOIRE Romain
SIMMONS Quinn
KWIATKOWSKI Michal
GAUDU David
BRENNER Marco

Brabantse Pijl
Both my Italian youngsters and unique picks are participating. Busatto and Buratti.
If they score points (top30) that's huge.
Also starting: Honore, Svrcek, Andersen SK, Hayter L
Giro di Sicilia
I have Fisher-Black and Lutsenko - looks promising. But maybe Luts will soft pedal and use the race as preparation only for Amstel?
Amstel
Schachmann, Schelling, Honore, Lutsenko, Pidcock, Andersen SK, Skjelmose

edit
Besançon - Martinez, Baudin, Thompson
Jura - Martinez, Thompson
Doubs - Martinez

All in all - this could become a good week.

Sicilia has already gone better than expected with Fisher-Blacks stage win yesterday, my only other rider there is Malucelli. Nice surprise after finishing near the bottom last week and dropping quite a bit as a result.

Brabantse Pijl - Hayter, Svrcek, Milan, Honoré, Piccolo, Vacek, Strong
Will be very disappointed if that doesn't garner a decent amount of points... although only Strong has shown good form lately.

Amstel - Pidcock, Schelling, Schachmann, Honoré, Piccolo, Vacek, Grégoire, Moscon, Strong
An even better lineup, but also much stronger opposition and reliant on more popular picks. Should still be a good race for me even if anyone winning seems out of the question.

Besançon - Martinez, Baudin
Jura - Martinez
Doubs - Martinez (incomplete startlist)
Martinez should get a big haul given the fields and routes. Baudin will probably be on domestique duty for O'Connor.

Doesn't look like UAE and Bingoal are doing the resurrected Giro di Reggio Calabria (which seems set to have a terrible field), so that should be everything. It's a lot to work with though, feeling pretty good about this week.

Appears it's only you and three other teams that have Godon!

Busatto 14th and 14 points. Didn't expect him to be my best finisher in the race.
I interviewed Busatto a couple of weeks ago and he sounds very confident about his abilities. He's also highly regarded inside the team.

His schedule should be a lot more u23 oriented from now on (LBL U23, Fleche Ardennaise, Giro Baby, Avenir, WC).
