Update #38: Jakob747 wins the week and heats up Green Jersey race
With another week in the books full of one-day races, we are down to two weeks left in the season. As has been noted in this thread by the participants themselves, the battle for the podium and top 10 are far from decided, as is the points race/green jersey contest.
This Week's Top Scorers
Always a team to take a chance on some rare riders and diamonds in the rough, Jakob747's team takes their third weekly win on the year. This week it was thanks primarily to a very helpful "win a hill sprint and hang on for GC points in a 2.Pro race" performance from Max Poole in Langkawi, netting 215 points for his 16 owners. Jakob also got good contributions from Tobias Lund (108, 7) for a stage win and 2nd in the Cro Race, Fred Wright (69, 22) for 3rd in the same, and Luke Lamperti (56, 39) for top 10s in a couple of 1-days.
We have a very interesting tie for 2nd, where Nyssinator and Salvarani each got contributions from 8 riders this week, 7 of which they shared (and the other scored 5 points in each case). Riders they shared included the aforementioned Poole, Wright and Lamperti, as well as Bini Girmay (106, 48), Archie Ryan (28, 56), Nairoman (12, 78) and Ben Turner (7, 54). The only difference being that they got their 5 pointer from different Norwegians - Nyssinator had Staune-Mittet and Salvarani had Hagenes.
Green Jersey Competition
It's never a guarantee that any of the top overall teams in this competition will score at the end of the year to make it exciting, but in this case, they did and it is. Jakob747 takes 45 points on the week to move only 23 away from the lead (and further down, teams in 6th, 7th, 8th and 10th all scored this week). It could be an interesting final two weeks - Googolplex as a Pogi owner is likely to score 280 points on Saturday, although the cancellation of Tre Valli probably took away over 100 more. Jakob747 has an eclectic enough team that it's possible that their team's obscure Italian picks might pick up some in the Veneto races to end the season, or a few random riders pick up end of season points the same week in Asia. We'll see! As of now, with only two weeks left, only the top 4 can mathematically win.
Top 10 Overall
No changes in the top 4 but Squire gains a whopping 251 points on EvansIsTheBest to land only 8 points out of 2nd place. Earns1985, Salvvarani and MADRAZO are all within 200 points of the podium as well with two weeks left. 10th place is over 400 points off the podium, which is not impossible but not too likely (without looking at the team lineups - one or two riders scoring surprising end of season points can make a difference!) No ins and outs of the top 10 this week, and 11th place Hugo Koblet is a little less than 200 points out of 10th, so there's a bit of a gap.
This week is a little less busy than last, especially with the cancellation of Tre Valli Varesine. We've got Piemonte and Lombardia, of course, and the 1.1 Chrono Des Nations on Sunday, as well as the somehow 2.Pro rated Tour of Taihu Lake and a race I don't recall ever hearing of before, the 2.1 Tour de Kyushu in Japan on an odd Saturday-Monday calendar.
Then, the next week, that's it!
