Hopeful none of the teams that have yet to be registered on the website have Piganzoli and he'll stay as an unique pick. Can't believe Lars Craps isn't though. Surprised Söderqvist and Hatherly are so rare. Rest of the team is boring.

I don't have a writeup ready for my team, but here it is!

How on earth I did managed to miss Kron ? I literally checked all WTT and PRT teams scores on CQ.... Other than that no obvious picks that I did not considered...

Also cosiudered Bisaux but not picked him in the end. Is he such a big talent?

OK, now I've used the last hour and a half doing a write-up of my team, so I better post it before I go to bed - after all it is reveal time, baby!

VINGEGAARD HANSEN Jonas: So this was my last reshuffle. My priciest rider ever by far, but my countryman will with a injury-free year get around 3000 points even with finishing 2nd after Tadej in every race they take part in. That’s a pretty good point return for an expensive rider. Will probably be picked by a lot of teams, regardless of his high price tag.

LIPOWITZ Florian: I know he’s at a loaded BORA team, but I really thought he looked great at several times during the season, where he should’ve taken more points, so there’s plenty of room for improvement. Maybe only a 2-300 point return ceiling, but I have a feeling he won’t be picked by many and thus will be fun to root for.

HEALY Ben: The Irish powerhouse really didn’t get the point haul he deserved last year. Should easily get 1000 points during the season, although the “threat” of doing a Grand Tour bid worries me a bit. I think he will be a top10 consensus pick.

JOHANNESSEN Tobias Halland: Was unlucky more than once last year and should have learned his celebrations lesson by now. Also quite versatile, clear leader at Uno-X and should be able to get 1000 points as well.

CICCONE Giulio: His top level is amazing, and even though he seems to always find a way to get sick, injured or something else when at peak level, I have hopes of him hitting a 1000 points season too.

PLAPP Lucas: Still has a lot to learn racing wise, but the guy has talent in several areas and had some bad luck last year. Should be an easy 500 points with potential for 500 more.

HIGUITA GARCIA Sergio Andres: Actually this is a very boring pick, but Higuita seems to be hit-or-miss, and last season was definitely a miss. A switch to Astana could also mean more easy racing, and the team believes he can help them get loads of points - so I do as well. 100-1000 points.

MIHKELS Madis: The young Estonian showed glimpses of his knack for hard racing last year, and it seems EF will support him for the sprints, so even though I’ve often been burned by picking sprinters, I had to include some. At least there’s a chance Mihkels will feature in some of my favorite spring races. 400-800 points.

HAYTER Ethan: What a bad pick he was last year! But I’m doubling down after his switch to the Wolf Pack, which have proven like a miracle medicine plenty of times. Without Lefevre to yell “don’t stay in the back, Ethan!”, he might continue to suck, but the guy clearly has talent. 0-500 points

JAKOBSEN Fabio: Another returnee on my team. Fabio disappointed majorly last year, and even though it’s not a Picnic (pun intended), hopefully he returns to his old self again. Had no self-confidence last year. 500+ points.

LAFAY Victor: Half a year after following Tadej and Jonas in the Tour, Lafay was one of the only guys Decathlon didn’t deliver wonders with last season. Is bound for a bounce-back year and 500+ points.

UIJTDEBROEKS Cian: WTH happened with young Key-Ann? Let’s hope it was just a year of adjusting to the Visma program and he’ll unleash his potential this year. Should be a 500+ candidate under normal circumstances. A top 10 consensus pick I think.

NORDHAGEN Jørgen: I’ve missed young super talents like Remco, Morgado and Del Toro due to thinking it was “to soon”, but no more. This young man is going to have a great career, and I’m on board from the beginning. 100-500 points.

STAUNE-MITTET Johannes: My third rider I welcome back to my team, only due to his switch to a new environment to get more chances. Didn’t exactly lit the World on fire last season, but there should be an safe points increase awaiting just by team switch default. 100-500 points .

GEOGHEGAN HART Tao: Another rider I was let down by last year. His serious injury from ’23 carried over in 2024, but Lidl-Trek still believe they have a GT top rider on their hand, so it would be stupid not to take a chance again. Probably will be a top3 consensus pick. 100-1400 points.

KÄMNA Lennard: A guy that resurfaced on my draft board in the final days. I love his racing instinct, and poor Lennard also seems a bit up-and-down, and with last year being a down year, this season will be a definite up on his new team. 200-800 points.

LOUVEL Matîs: Part of the last-minute reshuffle. I wanted a Frenchman for the many French races, but realized he switched to Israel, where he will be part of their classics campaign, and he’s very ambitious himself. His name wasn’t high on my draft board, but his points fitted and actually his profile fits the rider type I like to pick. My expectations are mixed. 100-500 points.

HERZOG Emil: A highly touted talent for several years, and he seemed to have trouble adjusting to the pro scene. Late last year I saw potential in several races, where he showed improved strength and stamina, so I’m hoping he’s ready for some more in a granted loaded Bora team. I saw what Jan Christen did on a loaded UAE team last year. 100-400 points.

BAX Sjoerd: Back to basics, Sjoerd. I thought he was ready to take the next step last year, but really stagnated at UAE. I think the change of scenery will do him good, and it’s great to have some riders for the smaller races in the team. I think he could end up being a really good pick. 200-600 points.

CAVAGNA Rémi: So Movistar wasn’t really a fit - at all. Now Cavagna is on home soil and should be able to get back to his monster watt ways. Should be a definite top10 consensus pick. 300-700 points.

KRON Andreas Lorentz: One of the first riders on my team. Was very unlucky last year and has the potential to multiply his score with 10+. A real no-brainer, which should be a top5 consensus candiate.

VADER Milan: OK, when I look at this pick now, I’m actually pondering if I rate Vader to high. I like that he switched Visma for a team with clear leadership opportunities, but I actually don’t know enough about Q36’s race calendar, as they need to give Vader chances in easier, smaller races to inflate his points total. 200-600 points.

VERMEERSCH Florian: I’ve been a shadow fan of his for a couple of years, and since the Spring classics are my favorites, I’m very happy to include him after joining an elite team where he will get joined leadership for most of these races. 300-500 points.

GLOAG Thomas: My fifth call-back. Never knew anything about his conditions until March or April, but now he should be training normally and shall take his spot in the Visma order. Usually the young guys at Visma get their chances in smaller races, and I’m hoping young Thomas gets some easy points that way. 200-400 points.

CALZONI Walter: I really don’t know what happened to him last year, which could be worrisome, but I liked the signs he showed in 2023, and at this price he’s a bargain. 100-400 points.

SCHELLING Ide: One of the guys that won in the reshuffle lottery. He should really have shown himself at Astana last year, and it puzzles me he rode so poorly in “easier” races tailor-made for his rider type. I hope it was a one-off, but even though Schelling should break even easily, I’m not counting on a massive haul of points. 100-200 points.

SENECHAL Florian: Got injured just before his big Spring goals last year, clear leader at Cofidis. Without bad luck an easy point increase early on. 200-500 points.

VAN BAARLE Dylan: Even more bad luck for him. No-brainer. Actually he is my bet for the most picked rider. 400-800 points.

TULETT Ben: Another Visma rider (yeah, teams will be floating with those this year - including mine) with a bad 2024. Another no-brainer and possible top5 consensus pick. 200-500 points.

GESBERT Elie: Yes, there he was! The French rider for the French scene! Gesbert has earlier shown promise in plenty of races, and after a serious illness hopefully is back to speed now. 200-400 points.

DINHAM Matthew: Don’t know what to expect after his long absence, but was indeed a talent worth “wasting” zero points on.

PHILIPSEN Albert Within: Like with Nordhagen I wasn’t going to let this talent with major point potential slip away, if they decide to show their World Class talent sooner than expected.

BRUNEL Alexys: The last guy in the reshuffle. Returns to road cycling after doing triathlon and gravel racing. Don’t know what to expect, but felt good about taking a flyer on rider on another French team. That IS the best types of flyers:)

Looking forward to seing peoples teams, but especially hearing the thoughts behind both picks and dismissals - og yeah, and the rider popularity table is always a nice read too.
Good luck to all! It's a great way to keep interest during the year, also in the smaller races - and I love it :) Thx Skidmark!

So the most popular rider I don't have on my team seems to be Kamna, who was the closest one to making it into my team out of those I didn't include, and the 2nd most popular I don't have is Ethan Hayter whom I have overlooked/forgotten about when building my team.

VINGEGAARD HANSEN JonasPotential is obvious.
VAN AERT WoutPotential is obvious.
HEALY BenI think this pick is underrated and will eventually match Pogacar/Evenepoel quite well in the Ardennes.
HINDLEY JaiHas been disappointing recently but I have faith in him riding Giro/Vuelta instead of Tour.
LAZKANO LOPEZ OierGamble but I think the potential is there for him to ride a really strong spring. Strongly believe he will ride a 1xxx-points season eventually.
GALL FelixNot terribly excited about this pick but think the upside is there.
MIHKELS MadisI'm not too sure about the transfer he made to EF but let's hope for a breakout season.
HAYTER EthanNot much too say here. Hoping he'll get to lead some races.
UIJTDEBROEKS CianObvious pick.
HERRADA LOPEZ JesusHad to pick one old-timer like this.
WIDAR JarnoI'm not expecting too much here since he isn't going pro yet, but I some upside should be there and he'll be fun to follow.
GEOGHEGAN HART TaoObvious pick.
TORRES ARIAS PabloLet's trust UAE's magic here.
KÄMNA LennardDidn't want to risk missing out on him.
BAGIOLI AndreaObvious pick.
CAVAGNA RémiYou've got to hope that a rider like this, now moving to FDJ, will crush it in the little league on home turf.
DE BUYST JasperMight be done, might not be. I've gambled on more expensive picks before.
BELOKI FERNANDEZ MarkelRisky but only 70 points and winning the national TT would already match that.
KRON Andreas LorentzObvious pick?
HAMILTON LucasMostly for the Oceania representation.
BISIAUX LéoThe kind of rider I'd have missed out on in previous editions.
FERRON ValentinGet him some more small French races.
VERMEERSCH FlorianObvious pick.
WEEMAES SashaTbh I just didn't find anyone else in this points range and you never know with sprinters and small races. Also a unique pick (yay).
KAMP AlexanderWanty might do him good. They've lost some riders they'll want to replace with new leaders.
SENECHAL FlorianDon't think he's done yet.
VAN BAARLE DylanObvious pick.
TULETT BenLooked like an unlucky last season.
JACKSON GeorgeI wanted some Oceania guys for the early season and he's performed before.
GESBERT ElieObvious pick.
HELLEMOSE AsbjørnGamble but might pan out (0-pointer too).
PHILIPSEN Albert WithenObvious pick.
SEIXAS PaulExciting prospect.

Looks like the sub 200 points guys are where the consensus picks reside this year. This was the sweet spot where potential and previous track record seemed to most reliably align to high reliability picks.

The 200-500 points guys range was too fraught with danger of riders that felt too reliant on getting one big result to strike up a big points tally.

Kept faith with WVA as my big money leader.

I can understand the attraction of the price tag for Jonas but couldn’t consider him seriously as I would not want to be in the position of cheering him on against Tadej for CQ team purposes.

I'm very surprised by the spread of expensive picks. I was expecting way more people to go for the likes of Kuss, Ganna and Healy for example. It seems only really Ganna meets those expectations. Seems a lot more than I expected have gone for up and coming riders Magnier, Nys and Pithie to name a few that don't have the track record in points but that have potential. I have a few of those but none as expensive as say Nys.

Participation this year is at 95 teams, one more than last year. Only 10 teams from last year didn't come back, which is remarkable, which means that between returning teams that missed a year or more, and new teams, there were 11 of those. Also below normal, but happy to see we have such a dedicated community.

Anyway, here are the popularity scores for the full 95 team spread, very similar to Shakes' site and I will send updates to Shakes so the site will be in alignment soon. These are the 'official' popularity scores barring spelling errors (I tried to check the zero pointers, especially Philipsen who I had at least 5 different spellings for, but could have missed some):

EDIT: Add Philipsen to two teams to make 72 - I looked for misspellings in the rider list with the last name 'Philipsen' but there were still two "WITHEN PHILIPSEN"'s out there that I missed.

So here are my picks for this year and my reasoning behind it.
The big question this year was what strategy I was going to use for my most expensive riders. It was clear already long before the season ended really that there would be several top names that had scored low enough that they would be viable picks for the game.

I ended up going for Vingegaard and Van Aert because when I looked at the potential riders in the 500-1000 point range there really was not many that I trusted would actually do really well.

VINGEGAARD HANSEN Jonas: Obviously his season was both hampered by the crash and ended early due to exhaustion so if he has a similar year like Before with winning his preparation races and doing well in 2 GTs he should be able to make a decent profit. I don't think he'll necessarily double his points buy given how rare it was for the expensive picks to score really high last season and seeing what other expensive picks there are then a return of 150% should be more than satisfactory.

VAN AERT Wout: Same as Vingegaard he lot a lot of important races due to crashes so a normal bounce back should at least be able to give 150% return.

PLAPP Lucas: Plapp was off to a really good start last season with his Nationals and P-N but then the rest of the season was full of disappointments and crashes so if he can take the form of P-N and extend that to a full year without crashes I think he will give good returns.

SCHMID Mauro; Schmid had a late start to 2024 and started with disastrous results but the 2nd part of his season showed his level so if he can have a full year at that level he should give good returns.

RICCITELLO Matthew: Riccitello has had a very steady progress over several years and given what he showed in races like Tour de Suisse last year I think he will just keep improving and when you rise in the ranks in stage races it tends to come with good points as well.

LEKNESSUND Andreas: Leknessund was originally not in my team but was added in a move to optimize points and ended up staying. His 2024 was fairly disappointing especially missing out on the Tour but also in other stage races he often finished right outside of where the points ramp up. My hopes is that he will take the wake up call of missing the Tour and really put in the work and effort to bring some good results. He showed in Sibiu Tour that he can still climb well so hopefully he can show more of that in 2025. Still bit of a patriotic pick though.

LECERF William Junior: Lecerf was a late addition to the team after going through all the options in his price range. He started really well in Alula Tour and Rwanda but then like Leknessund he finished a lot of stage races in that 20-35 range just below of where the good points are so if he can just take another step and get closer to the top 10 in stage races then the points should follow.

TILLER Rasmus Fossum: Rasmus had a troubled year with lots of crashes and niggles because of those crashes so hopefully he gets back to his best without incidents.

HAYTER Ethan: Ethan was a popular pick last year with people hoping he would recreate or improve on his form from 2021 and 2022 but that did not happen. The reason I'm trying for him again is that his cost is even lower, he has a new team and has gotten away from the INEOS structure that he was criticizing while leaving. So hopefully that combine to get him back to his previous performance.

VERNON Ethan: Ethan Vernon lost a lot of the season from crashing out of the Giro and he was looking to be a very good pick. Then he went and scored a bunch of points in China making him more expensive as a pick but with the form he showed at the end of the season it also showed his potential and since he is still young and developing I think he can get some really good results going.

JAKOBSEN Fabio: Fabio looking dreadful all year pretty much and who knows if he can really turn things around but given statements about needing to refocus his training into becoming more of a cyclist and not just a sprinter gives hopes that he can actually be in the mix at the end of races again.

UIJTDEBROEKS Cian: Cian was another one of those who was a popular pick last year with people expecting him to take another step forward but instead it went backwards. Now his points are much more reasonable than even last year so even just getting back to 2023 level would be a good outcome.

NORDHAGEN Jørgen: Nordhagen is one of those young riders that is just waiting to make a big impact on the WT. He scored really well at U-23 level where the points are limited except missing out on several top races like Ronde de L'Isard and Giro Next Gen due to illness and Tour de l'Avenir due to funding issues. I think he is one of the candidates to be this years Isaac Del Toro.

GEOGHEGAN HART Tao: This is a very unpredictable rider that has had some really big ups in his career so at this price I just couldn't pass him up.

RONDEL Mathys: Mathys has had good finishes in both Tour de l'Avenir and Giro Next Gen and that has been a good place to look for new talent coming into the pro ranks. That's how I picked out Archie Ryan, Jan Christen, Junior Lecerf and Del Toro for last years game (with also Piganzoli and Pellizzari being examples of the same) so my hope is that he will have a similar good points haul as these riders now that he enters first first team.

KULSET Johannes: Johannes is more of a patriotic pick. I had him last year at the exact same price point but I'm hopeing that with one more year under his best and a Tour in his legs he can make good strides this year. I'm also curious to see if adding Blummenfelts trainer to the team will have any immediate impact on Uno-X especially in the mountains. Based on comments just this week it seems he is very excited for Blummenfelts trainer and has already shifted his training slightly following talks with the new coach.

TORRES ARIAS Pablo: Like Nordhagen Torres is one of those U-23 and junior stars that did well in his first senior year and is now stepping up to WT level. He is another candidate to be this years Isaac Del Torro.

KÄMNA Lennard: Kämna only got to ride three races last year before an accident took him out. Yet the fact that Lidl Believes in him and signed him for 3 years despite not seeing him on the bike again after the accident tells me he should be able to make a nice comeback this year. He's at least back on his bike training already so things should be good by the start of the season hopefully.

BAGIOLI Andrea. Bagioli is one of those iffy picks. Unless I'm mistaken there wasn't really any good reason for his poor performances last year, no big crashes or injuries from what I've seen but with his low cost compared to his previous level it would just be foolish to leave him out.

LOUVEL Matîs: Louvel had a very late start to the season with not riding until April. This along with a new team can hopefully turn around his downward trend in points from the past 2 seasons. He showed in the 2nd half of the season that he still has the capability for results so hopefully there can be more of that.

KAJAMINI Florian Samuel: Kajamini is another one of those riders that did well in Giro Next Gen and Tour de l'Avenir. He also rides for Astana and given their aim at getting enough points to remain in the WT this cycle I wanted someone from Astana in my team.

CAVAGNA Rémi: Cavagna had a dreadful year with Movistar where he didn't match well with the language and culture and his new bike. Now he is back with a french team and hopefully that means his previous results can also return.

DONALDSON Robert: Donaldson is a bit of a punt. I had a fair chunk of points left over when I had finished my latest draft of the team and in an attempt to maximize my points I looked at what riders I could get in as replacements and with Donaldson I would end up at exactly 7500 points and with his results in Tour of Britain I think he can have some potential to reward me for picking him.

KRON Andreas Lorentz: Kron had one of his worst seasons last year so he has a large margin to improve. The move to Uno-X is likely to be positive with their race schedule and attacking mindset which should suit him well.

VERMEERSCH Florian: Verneersch was out with an injury early in the year and missed the whole spring classics season which is his best part of the year and with his low cost he should be one of the automatic picks of the year.

KAMP Alexander: Kamp is another of those riders that is very cheap compared to their previous performance and given he's riding for a new team is hopefully positive for the chance of him scoring well.

GLOAG Thomas: Gloag missed most of last season because of his injury in late 2023 but when he came back he showed he is still a promising climber so being back in full force should mean an easy sizeable profit. Another auto-pick.

SENECHAL Florian: He broke his collarbone at Het Nieuwsblad which likely impacted his classics season. At any rate he's a class rider at a cost you simply can't ignore.

VAN BAARLE Dylan: Van Baarle has been in and out of my team a few times. On the one hand he is cheap and has lots of potential but in recent years his points have been dominated by only a couple of big results which makes it a little more risky compared to someone who gets constant results- In the end he did make it though.

TULETT Ben: Tulett is still a young and improving rider who missed a lot of last season due to crashes so he should be an easy profit Engine if he gets to race without incident.

GESBERT Elie: Gesbert was a late inclusion, I originally had Cedrik Bakke Christophersen in this spot but I ended up switching to Gesbert who is at a similar price and hsa more of a proven track record.

PHILIPSEN Albert Withen: One of the most hyped juniors is now entering directly into the WT and if he's anything like Widar, Torres and Nordhagen he should be good for at least 150 points or so.

SEIXAS Paul: Another top junior entering straight into the WT who should be able to give a nice return as a 0 cost pick.

The most interesting fact about my team is the way I picked it. Instead of going with The Basque Boys for the third year in a row (BTW, @Shakes, I'd much appreciate it if you'd changed my team name to Samu Cuenca on your website), I have chosen to make a sort of gender swap remake of the film/play/musical Calendar Girls, in the sense that I have included riders born on each day of a month (spread out over all 12 months). Since there are no more than 31 days in any of the months, I have two riders born on the 1st and two born on the 2nd.

Similar to the plot of Calendar Girls, my team consists of a lot of more mature riders, who will try to prove that they've still got it after a less than stellar 2024, while simultaneously raise funds for a good cause. Instead of collecting money for cancer research in the UK by taking off their clothes, they'll be punishing their aching bodies in order to score CQ points on behalf of a crazy Danish person, but there's such a thing called creative freedom.

Choosing my riders this way was a bit annoying at times, because there are some dates on which multiple seemingly good picks were available and some where the options were less convincing. I was also quite disappointed when I realised that Nans Peters shares his birthday with Florian Vermeersch.

While I haven't selected any Basque riders, I have included Sergio Higuita once again. You know what they say: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times: Dear mr. Cuenca, we're sorry to inform you that your account has been provisionally suspended due to adverse findings in your online bio passport.
