I remember playing Junior rugby and there's sometimes be one player on the opposition team who is already shaving and is built like a 25 year old bloke. Philipsen looks like one of them.

Nah, He'll likely end the sesaon on 150-200 points or so which is a nice chunk for a free rider but shouldn't really be a game defining pick.
The two best first pro races of riders who skipped the U23s are Evenepoel's GC 9th and TT 3rd in San Juan and Tarling's TT 2nd in Bessèges. Considering that those are the two most successful such riders, 150-200 points would be incredibly disappointing for AWP if he's this good already.

No, but he did go from a small team to a WT team. Even if he isn't on Del Toro's level from last year, he will still have a great chance of scoring more points than Del Toro did in 2023.

Remco scored 952 points straight from the juniors.

Look, guys. I'm trying to make repre feel less bad for ommitting Withen!

Perhaps. I was thinking of him riding more of U23 program still like Nordhagen, Torres or Widar from last year but I guess he's not eligible for that now with the new rules.

Isn't it only the U23 WC that he can't ride?

Mancebo is already into profit. I actually did check him out and wondered briefly if I should have picked him for the lolz (at a price of 2 points) but eventually decided that he was probably over the hill.

Hold on. Is there something weird going on the percentage (return?) of Withen because he was a zero-pointer?

Full NameCurrent Points2024 PointsPercentage
PHILIPSEN Albert Withen1000.0000

@Shakes, can you look into it?
It is dividing 10 with 0. Which should be divided by 0 error but that is 'error catched' and put to 0 (can also have it be empty). There is no real solution to this. Instead of dividing by 0 I can divide by 1 but that is not really correct either.

Less ugly (imo) than an error code, and it is clear from column 2 that he has points; is it really an issue?

I suppose it could be avoided by having a profit/loss column instead of %age.

Looking forward to a decent weekend. Hopefully Onley, Gloag, Philipsen, Nerurker and Torres will pick up some GC points between them.

In Spain I have a bunch that I am looking forward to seeing:
Krijnsen
Izqeardo
Christen
Penhoet
Romeo

Unfortunately not very well represented in next week's Majorca pointsfest.

Only Ferron in the Valencian races this weekend. Hoping Oldani doesn't prove me wrong by not sticking with him for a second year. Similarly, Tronchon at the TDU. Had a great start to 2024, then disappeared into domming, before not doing much at all after May. Only three of us picked him last year, so imagine he's fairly rare?

C'mon Plapp. Give us those early Aussie points we were greedy for.

I'll be very happy with a top 5. I don't expect a podium from neither Plapp nor Vine, considering there is a headwind on Willunga Hill apparently. Hard to make a difference when you're not Richie Porte. Guessing Romo and Narvaez will fight for the overall win, with Onley and FFB also more likely for the podium than my two Aussies.

Plapp looked great this week too and attacked on stage 3. So i hope for the podium or overall win. But you are right, Narvaez and Romo probably looking better for the win right now. FFB too. Sooooo, it's possible, but not given.

Getting away on that climb in a headwind is really hard, especially when you're not really explosive, as is the case with Plapp. He has also finished way down in every group so far, so if there's a bigger group with s.t. on the top of Willunga Hill he is not doing well on GC. So I'm not very optimistic for the big prize. But should be much better than his previous Januarys regardless. Just a bit unlucky with parcours/conditions.

Dan Mclay won a round of the National Junior Series in the UK. He looked the same then at 16 as he does now ;)

Yall heard her, size matter.

When it comes to score; YES!

Correct me if I'm wrong; normally, the way the percentage numbers work is that if the number goes above 1 - as opposed to 0.xxx - then a rider is into profit?
So now, with Withen, it looks like he'll never go into profit.

Yeah, you made a huge mistake here. You could have had Froome as a unique pick instead. Even Mickey Mouse would have been just as valuable as AWP, by this metric.
