By the way, Alaphilippe has just become the first rider with 5 podium finishes but no win. Many others are on 4 (Y. Gene, B. Mollema, I. Izagirre, B. Intxausti, P. Gilbert, R. Torres, J. Mareczko, C. Barbero).

12 - R. Costa

9 - V. Agnoli, A. Tsatevich, T. Pinot, P. Gilbert, B. Intxausti, W. Kelderman, D. Moreno, N. Haas, D. Ratto
8 - T. Boonen, T. Machado, E. Pinto, A. Vuillermoz, F. Pellizotti, Ser. Henao
7 - Y. Gene, L.L. Sanchez, N. Edet, A. Demare, I. Izagirre, F. Mancebo, D. Cunego, J. Mareczko, J. Fuglsang, N. Ruffoni, J. Bakelants, I. Zakarin, J. Alaphilippe, C. Barbero
6 - S. Clarke, M. Canola, A. Demoitie, T. Benoot, C. Laporte, S. Spilak, B. Mollema, T. Wellens, J. Mendes, R. Bardet, K. Sbaragli, M. Kolar
5 - C. Evans, A. Blythe, R. Fernandez, M. Kudus, A. Porsev, Sy. Chavanel, K. Hanson, G. Izagirre, O. Gatto, J. Drucker, J. Arredondo, D. Oss, A Vichot, J. Simon, L. König, B. Giraud, A. Txurruka, D. Viganò, J. Molano, D. Colli, A. Örken

No worries, Rui Costa will win Tour de Suisse.
Oh wait, he's riding Dauphiné

Sbaragli is another dark horse for this. Last year he had more than 20.

is Suisse the harder of the two this year (and there has a stronger expected field)? either way, what a fool, the record number of wins is 4

I find it strange he'd choose the Dauphiné over Suisse. But wouldn't surprise me if he ended up doing Suisse. It's by far his prefered race and country to race in, also because of the many Portuguese immigrants there. The Rettenbachgietscher is decidely not for him, as proven countless times including today, but the parcours is so much more than a MTF, with many finales and stages in general that actually suit him, and where he could gain time.

The Dauphiné this year is his type of race, with only one mountain where he is foreseeable to concede more than a few seconds (up to Saint-Gervais-Les-Baines), the rest being gradual long climbs. Those are the type where he makes a difference, he never really performed on the above average inclined slopes, only in Verbier once, in 2012. He won races on Manse, Croix Fry, your typical french Alps climbs, and Saas-Fee and the Albulapass, also long steady climbs.

That may be the reason why he fancies the Dauphiné this year, but he stands a chance in Switzerland nevertheless, and it would be something to see him snatch four in a row, extend his record of consecutive wins, equal Fornara and leave behind Kübler and Hugo Koblet.

To respond to you, even if Valverde goes to Route du Sud, Dauphiné is still likely to have the strongest field, with only Quintana and to a lesser extent Majka out to contest Suisse.

Sorry for the laziness but I think Kelderman topped this league last year right? He's in a good position right now. Doesn't want to take the jersey too early of course he's not an amateur.

Yet another for Alaphilippe. Also one for Sergio, but he should win today.
Boy, I was wrong. Poor Henao. Almost there without being there.
Now on double digits :(
He should be going for Suisse again. Alaphilippe/Valverde/Purito-free zone. Unless they change their minds of course.

It doesn't matter if they are not there. Another rider would emerge to take the win instead of him. Such is the fate of the eternally second.
