Does Owain Doull have a contract for next year? Impressive stuff this far.

His focus is on the track next year and Rio, he will probably stay with Wiggnis as its a good fit. I'd expect him to be hot property for 2017 though.

Cheers. And after reading JRanton post this also makes Doull's performance even more impressive too :)

Tactical masterclass by Sky.
Not.

Honestly, the only weird thing was riding on the front after Izagirre had been pulled back. Not that it changed the result. When you only have one wheel that you need to mark (Poels) and you're probably the strongest rider in the race (EBH) it's pretty easy to defend your lead. Same thing as with Dumoulin against Aru and Astana in the Vuelta.

This terrible final weekend means the GC is basically over now. Just a sprint today and then two more coming up. Disappointing race compared to last year.

Steven Kruijswijk disagrees “Right from the start, we turned to the right and we had crosswinds. It was attack after attack.

“Everyone was on the limit. After 120k everybody was looking at each other saying ‘we have to do another 70k’.”

And Rasmus Quaade “I think it was one of the hardest stages I’ve ever done in my full career,” he said.

“We had to keep Guldhammer in a good position, and then we had to cover all the breakaways and everybody wanted to attack. That was really, really hard.

“We hoped that a breakaway could go away so it would be more easy but everybody wanted to have racing and it was just all day attacking and attacking.”

I thought it was a superb stage. Much better than expected. Agree about tomorrow though.

Was at Carsington Water at the end of one of the few flat sections till then. The look on some of the riders's faces as they saw another hill approaching said it all :D

One more...

"The parcours is really hard," Trentin added. "When the bunch split the first time we got on a crest and the whole way on the crest it was crosswind. In the crosswind on the flat it’s already hard – can you imagine what it’s like when it’s up and down."

Welcome to Derbyshire, Matteo.

It wasn't even all that windy here today... a couple of weeks ago, I had a pinch flat riding some of today's stage after being blown off the road.

For a 22 year old with two seasons at conti level only, to be one second off the podium in a race this selective is a good indicator of a hardman sprinting future.

They're on an airfield?

I wondered the same, though I must admit I don't know very well how the photo finish works. Same happened last week at the Brussels Cycling Classic with Roy Jans and Dylan Groenewegen. Viviani's front wheel looks skewed.
